Anyone with an allotment?

Assume there will be birds in the tree that will hopefully keep the plot slug free.

Carpet bomb the whole plot with cardboard bike boxes and you’re half way there.

In other news, the compost bin I’ve been putting my food waste looks like it’s nearly compost.

We got our first compost from the bottom of the heap yesterday. Took a couple of years but not bad seeing as I only turned it once and there’s a lot of grass clods and other crap in there.

Very tired looking Napolitana fig trees in my local Lidl for £3.99. Found it too hard to resist.

I got a small fig from Lidl a few years ago. It's still absolutely tiny.

Don’t think we’d get away with a fire that size! We have to use little brazier/bin incinerators and keep it under the radar due to houses on 3 sides of the site.

Is there a forum recommended cheap shed? Or is homemade / second hand the way to go

If you want cheap and are able to dismantle, move and assemble you def 2nd hand. You'll regularly find free-to-collect and <£50 ones on FBM and ebay.

I’ve got a shed on mine and I’ve actually found I hardly use it so might be worth giving it some time to work out what you really need. Also you might want to design it so that it can be used as growing/seedling space as well.

Interesting, I think I would use it as a space to store tools but also for light potting/sowing duties, and yeah, am considering how to include a window and shelf or maybe just cold frames outside. We are apparently limited to 6x4 feet, which probably rules out a full on potting shed, but not sure if that's enforced.

Hah, yeah I’m looking at this one and thinking that’s too small a branch to sensibly root a cutting from.

It's growing, just very very slowly. This was its first winter outside and it survived, although we didn't have many very cold spells. Previously I've brought it in.

Took a punt on this for a quid. Borlotti, carrots, squash, strawberries and some tomatoes in this evening.

Had to Google tayberry, definitely hinba start growing some of those

went down the allotment and pretty much everything had been decimated by slugs, apart from kale and Spinach.

Think I was somewhat naive how many more slugs there are at the allotment vs garden. I killed 50+ slugs while there.

Thankfully I have extras of pretty much everything so Ill let them grow on a bit longer and get stronger first.

Is it worse first year when getting rid of overgrown areas?

Only in my second year but we've had more slug damage this year than last. Perhaps because of the wet winter we had?
