Pitts Special?

The US air tankers have been trucking fuel to Poland and nearby places since the beginning of the Ukraine war. Less so these days, as a lot of it comes out of Germany. And as well as trucking fuel they are mostly tanking the US, RAF and NATO spy planes usually loitering all day somewhere near the borders of Ukraine. Meanwhile the Hercules/C17/C5 airlift continues daily. There seems to have been a slight step up of late. All of this comes over my house on a daily basis.

Don't know much about power planes but I believe the Pitts is a biplane.

In my work experience when I was 14 I went to British Aerospace in Brough and I had to rivet parts for the AV8B and work on wiring looms for the Tornado. Seemed silly at the time, and in retrospect.

Might fit the bill. The engine was loud and harsh but not deep bass like a warbird.

I was there in 1979 for a while, did more walking around nosying than work but started my interest in aircraft

I had my first flying lesson (well trial lesson to get the gist of small plane flying, but apparently counts towards my 45 hours) today, what a great day for it. Cessna, lovely plane to be in.

Also saw Spitfires and Harvard trainers, amongst others. The Harvard is probably one of the loudest planes I've ever heard.

Pilot reported deceased by the RAF, sadly. Sounds like an engine failure on takeoff.

Have actually been shown round Coningsby by the Camp Commander. As I was shooting there(photography) and we went to the memorial flight hanger, there were a load of plane spotters the other side of the fence, they were probably quite jealous I had unfettered access.
The Commander said “nobody is allowed to stand where we were but it’s ok if you are with me”, only thing I couldn’t photograph was the radar in the nose cone or cockpit of the Eurofighter.

I was just getting my camera out to take a few shots of the red kites over the garden and heard this thing rumbling past in the distance. My brother had an airfix model of a Catalina back in the 1970s but I don’t think I have ever seen a real one.

Anyone see the formation of three Dakotas/C-47s/DC-3s heading due South across Central London a couple of hours ago? Guess part of D-Day commemoration, but can't find anything specific.

I’ve got some detailed, hand-written notes from the 1940s on how to maintain these - my grandad was an engine fitter on Catalinas in the RAF during the war. He was stationed in India.
