Folks. Has anyone here tried a self cleaning/automatic litter box? Iām considering it as my son dislikes cleaning the manual litter tray and an automatic one should see the cat right until I get back from working away.
Iām currently considering the elspet ball shaped one. Hoping for some recommendations or warnings -

My wife ordered a litter Robt 4 around 1 year ago. It works well but requires a reset sometimes. It has worked well when we go away for vacation and our house/pet sitter isn't burdened by the duties. It can last 5 to 7 days between charging bags... It has a helpful app that tracks his weight and frequency of use. We needed to have a self cleaning litter box to keep our Jack Russell from getting into the cats poop

Mr Fwuff has his own iMac (for the glass screen, but it's running Linux of course), and his own Gmail account for his YouTube likes

Iām debating either a pura max or an Elspet model as the litter robot models are unfortunately out of my budget.

Anything I can do to stop this one asking for breakfast at 5am. Think she thinks the moment the sun rises that it's time - she tried to make two attempts this morning to get to her food baskets which are on some rather high cabinets but failed

We got a robot feeder which is timed to feed a small amount several times over 24hrs. The boy gets a feed at 0400 which stops him jumping on our chests with his 7.2kg bulk and yowling like he's been starved for months. We sometimes hear it go off, but it's easy to sleep through and far more preferable than regular harassment from a persistent, greedy cat.

Second for a timed feeder. I use this one set at 5:45 to keep the cat off my head in the morning: https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/petsafe-5-meal-automatic-pet-feeder

Looking for some advice. Our cat is an outdoor cat which has somewhat become an indoor cat. She has no litter tray and has had no need for it. Over the past week or so, it seems she has been peeing on some mats in the house. She has been in odd form too. We took her to the vet today and she has a UTI which we now have meds for.
I hope she returns to her usual toileting outside but hard to tell at the moment.
If we get a litter tray will she have to be trained to use it? Bear in mind no one has ever seen her pee in the house so it's not as if she could be brought to the tray when she starts to pee etc.
Any pointers appreciated.

They don't really need litter training as they naturally want to bury their business and litter is usually the only diggable material around

I don't know if it's necessary but you can pick up the cat and introduce it to the litter tray so it stands in it and knows the texture and where it is.

K. Thanks. She is not happy this evening and the vet mentioned stress which may be a result of other cats around the house.
I don't like it that she isn't settled as she is very nervous normally. -

Just in case the vet didn't tell you this....when they have a uti they associate the pain with the place where they pee. So they start peeing in a new place. Her meds will stop the pain v rapidly. Most cats quickly revert to their former peeing habits.

other cats around the house
Do you mean other people's cats or feral cats near your house? Is there any scent marking/spraying going on?

Loads of neighbours cats. Two doors away have four cats. And across the road have two. And then a variety of other one from slightly further away.

If she's only recently become scared it may be because an unneutered tom has been added to the mix and is scent-marking with his own extra strong pong. My last cat was v. stressed in a similar scenario. The problem was eventually solved by catching, neutering and rehoming the tom, who was feral. (This probably saved his life. He is now v. happy).
eta If she continues to be stressed the utis may become a regular feature and the vet will recommend special food, e.g. https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/royal-canin-vet-diet-urinary-feline-(online-only)?weight=1.5kg?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google_shopping&cm_mmc=Google-_-CPC-_-%20google_shopping-_-google_shopping&ita=1976&ito=google_shopping&istCompanyId=7255ccad-a1fc-4729-af31-478f79e5071c&istFeedId=385e6b9a-8b03-4076-a8bb-e4737df8549c&istItemId=imrxmmxpp&istBid=t

Thanks. Don't think that's the issue but I will ask my neighbours.
She hasn't been good this evening but the stress of the vet journey may have a factor in that. Thanks -

Perhaps you could accompany her when she goes out? You might discover that a particular cat is showing up in order to bully her or something.
The so named furry little bellend has mellowed in his elderly years. He actually let a grandchild stroke him a few days ago without me having to take the child to a&e after.
