• me too!

tend to limit myself to a sneaky breakfast every now and then these days.

  • These are actually banging if you are after some supermarket smoke.

  • Costco deflector is very similar, the egg and Joe have better finishes than the others but you're gonna end up paying over a grand more for basically the same thing.

  • Saw someone with a Skotti grill at the beach - nice design for anyone searching for something portable. Can run on gas or wood/charcoal. Folds flat and comes in/fits in a fire proof bag which has magnetic bits to close it. The bag acts as a matt to cook on. Weighs about 3kg all in.

  • I want of those asado-style outdoor grills/ranges that tam “the tory” straker cooks on in his yt videos. too much wonga unfortunately

  • I’ve got one, I love it!

  • Yeah maybe, the lumpwood charcoal is quite large maybe im not packing it dense enough in the chimney, will keep experimenting i guess!

  • Did a shredded lamb leg, homemade pittas, salsa verde and tzatziki. I ran out of time / patience to get the meat to the 90deg + internal temp, I started a bit late, so it was more chopped than shredded but it was a great dinner in the end.

  • looks banging!

my son did homemade pittas the other day. i was like

    • they are £1 for 6 in that shop over the road

but tbf his homemade ones were next level.

  • They’re so easy too, worth it I reckon.

  • Am very excited. In anticipation of the new BBQ arrival my wife gave me the Meater 2 Plus wireless meat probe for our wedding anniversary today. It’s going to be super helpful as the new BBQ will have a rotisserie and a wired probe would clearly have issues after a few minutes of turning around.

New BBQ is has now been made and will be shipped this week, but sea freight is going to be approx 6 weeks.

  • Top marks to her. What've you ordered? What's your first cook gonna be on it?

  • Time to trawl this thread. My BBQ finally rotted through so need a new one.

I've always had rectangular BBQs with a large cast iron cook surface as I grill then use indirect heat to complete the cook.

Not sure I can afford/justify an egg/kamado this time round, are they really any better than a sheet metal box? Surely it's all technique?

  • Not going to say as there will be a golf club meltdown.

  • Oh come on, as if we would.

    What ya got?

  • Are you looking to grill (direct heat) bbq (indirect heat) or smoke.

Some bbqs and smokers are more temperature stable and this is important to accurate cooking. If your cooker wildly fluctuates as the sun comes up, or cloud cover happens your technique can’t compensate.

My next bbq is extremely thermally stable, so I hope not to need a grill controller. but with others you might consider a PID fan system to reactively adapt to conditions.

  • That's part of the fun, do tell...

  • My next bbq is extremely thermally stable

    He is teasing us

  • He is teasing us

Exactly. So I googled "most expensive BBQ" and looked fpr something suitably artisanal.

    Found this:

  • That does look good but he is importing his...

  • My money's on a Chudbox.

  • Dang. I don't know any other outrageously priced BBQs with rotisserie. Levels of suspense greaten!

  • Not sure I can afford/justify an egg/kamado this time round, are they really any better than a sheet metal box?

For grilling no, they're good for that but a grill surface with a flat plate is better and more fun to cook on imo. The beauty of a kamado is it's versatility, you can do a lot with it, they look nice and stand up to the elements a lot better than any metal bbq.

If you don't plan on smoking anything I definitely wouldn't bother. My dream set up would be to have a kamado and plancha type grill next to it. A proper outside kitchen.

  • Nearly 3 and a half grand for something that looks like it's been knocked up with scrap in an afternoon!
