  • Oof 3:14 is impressive .. especially in that heat.

How was the descent of Creskeld?

I sneaked a tiny HM PB at 1:35:16 which I’m happy with 2-weeks after a marathon. I was defo in bonk territory in the last KM.. nobody has ever drunk a Erdinger 0% faster.

  • That parkrun heart rate data is from a chest strap and have had very similar graphs the last 3 weeks for parkrun... my maximum heart rate does seem to lie outside the statistical "normal" range, this is from a half marathon a couple of months ago - it looks like credible data until the 17km mark.

    Resting heart rate is fine.

  • Yeah I’m going on feel, plenty of trail running. I can run up hill without pain so been going full gas up the hills and jog walking down. I’ve taken 30 seconds off some Lyme park strava segments.

3:14 is decent in this heat, I ran gently yesterday and today and still felt hungover type dehydration without drinking alcohol.

  • I'm well aware of groups like Run Dem Crew who have been around a while but yesterday and today I've come across two vast groups of runners probably over 100 people each, one on Albert Embankment and one today in Covent Garden that had people carrying fuck off loudspeaker backpacks too.
    WTF is this all about?

  • Wow, that’s amazing, what’s your age if you don’t mind me asking?

  • Haha, it’s definitely become “a thing”. There’s a fashion element to it as well, which is hilarious. Victoria Park HM last week was an absolute sea of fancy kit.

  • 10 years old, s0 220-age is spot on

    Nah, 32 years old

  • Am I going to have to get something more fancy than my £6 dhb vest for Hackney Half next weekend?

  • There were girls running in what looked like Skims

  • Haha, yeah I saw a lot of that too. I’m happy keeping it 100% Decathon.

  • If it’s this hot the Nike aeroswift string vest is ace! Probably not a la mode enough by the sounds of it!

  • I'm volunteering on the 9.5 mile water station at hackney half.

Give me a wave and get some water or whatever else I'm helping out with, otherwise you'll get nothing

  • slow 4:30min km

    Gutting to be that slow.

  • The jump in the HR at the start of the hill is a classic symptom of your HRM strap picking up an increase in cadence (which is natural as you start climbing) as an increase in HR. I had exactly the same with one particular brand of HR strap.

See if you can borrow a different strap, or use a wrist/bicep style strap like a Polar OH1+ to see if that changes things. Inaccurate/misleading HR data is worse than no HR data at all.

    Glad it's not medical.

  • Useful info - thank you. I will try another type of HRM

  • Nike aeroswift string

I have one of those but it comes up a little small. Ordered a size up.

Anyone after an unworn medium in black? £25 posted

  • Can anyone recommend a run belt that carries 1 or 2 small hard bottles, not soft flasks, not big bottles? Like this?
Or I might just get this for sake of £20 and work out for myself why it’s £20.
Only for racing to avoid relying on aid stations

I'd be going through here - i know ultimate direction and ultimate aspire get good reviews

  • After running 50km the other week and semi-hating it. I've entered a 50mile race around lake Windemere next May...

  • The worst ones are the groups that let off glitter bombs and flares as they run.

  • I also have a high max (~213), so that aspect of your data is not unbelievable. It's also possible to run at 90-95% of max for >10km but, as others say, you'd know about it.

I have seen the same odd patterns for HR profiles from wrist-based HR and chest straps. I have a suspicion (though I obviously can't prove it) that some devices employ error correction techniques that simply rely on spotting extreme values. If you're in hummingbird club then you might sometimes get these strange traces as a result.

  • Quite curious to go out and find out what my max is now :p

  • That’s ages away! Bet you’ll do another solo one in the mean time.
