  • Sometimes the caffeine just isn't enough!

  • Of the current selection the Vulcan azul sounds like what you might want

  • Was visiting friends in the north east and visited Mr Coopers in Middlesborough. Great coffee shop but also had some coffee from roasters I'd not heard of before, so picked up this bag.

Not quite a fruity punch, but definitely an aggressive fruity slap to the face. Really enjoying it.

  • The roast date is nearly 2 months ago so wondering if it would be fruitier if it was fresher, going to try it in the Clever Dripper tomorrow.

  • I feel like my espresso days might be numbered and I’m tempted by a brewer. There’s the Hoffman approved sage brewer, but what are the other options for someone dipping a toe into brewed coffee. It’s something I know zero about.

  • If you're not going to be making more than 500ml at a time grab a clever dripper, best bit of coffee kit I've ever bought.

For brewers, sage for tweakbillity, moccamaster for looks and being able to repair easily.

  • Can't fault Aromaboy, my daily go to now.

  • I have the Sage and it's really good. A V60 makes coffee just as well for a fraction of the cost though. It's just less convenient. For what it's worth, I've tried a Clever Dripper and didn't like it that much. Maybe you're better trying a few cheap options to figure out what you prefer?

  • Like @Gewürzt I use a Clever Dripper daily and have a Moccamaster for when we have visitors, great combo imo. There's a new Fellow brewer coming in Autumn that looks good too but will bit pricier

  • Fellow brewer

    500 notes.

It does look cool though, and I guess not that expensive compared to what an espresso set up might cost.

  • If I had a spare £200 I’d just buy the sage.

The aroma boy is super cheap. My wife would hate the aesthetic though.

  • If I had a spare £200 I’d just buy the sage

Clever dripper is 25 quid, spend the rest on coffee.

  • Aromaboy it comes in black. winning

  • Do people brew their JGC with water straight off the boil? Or a bit cooler?

My brews have been a little bit harsh/ over extracted so wondering about dropping the temp a bit.

  • How’s the grind

  • Straight off the boil for me. For harsh brews I tend to extract less by using a coarser grind or shorter brew time, (although I'm aware there are many other variables!). I'm generally using v60 for my brews.

  • after most of a lifetime of drinking mainly french press, i bought an aeropress.

    wow - everything tastes nicer!

the only slight downside is weekends where we like to sit around drinking multiple cups of coffee - just a bit of a faff having to make each cup individually.

I guess a filter machine would deliver largely the same taste? sage precision brewer is the answer?

  • Grind is fairly fine. Brew time is around 3:30 for a 250ml v60. Using my fellow ode gen 2 set at around one step coarser than the 3.

  • Mokkamaster I think

  • yes, it's between the sage and the moccamaster for sure.

  • Just to wave the flag for JGC. I've been a fan for about 10yrs, mainly due to bang for buck/consistency. But also for their customer service, so if you know you want something specific from your coffee, speak to them, they're a friendly team. But also they rarely have really "edgy" profiles, but you can probably push them for brew advice to push what they do have.

  • Anyone with a Fellow Ode and a Clever Dripper?

  • I have a Sage Precision Brewer and a Clever Dripper. I think the CD brews better coffee, so if you're never going to brew more than 450ml, the CD is a great choice.

Auto start feature on the SPB is pretty great though.

  • If I was dumb enough to buy a sgp that didn’t come with the carafe, where would I get a replacement carafe?

Sage website says out of stock, looks like it’s been that way for a while.

    Nothing on eBay either.

It’s the auto feature I’m keen on. My wife and I go to the gym each morning at 0600 so if I could have a coffee ready to go it would be great.
