  • @Markyboy - a little 2t Italian exotica for you mate? Such a great looking bike. The gearbox alone is 3500 quid!

  • I'm looking at the MV on Saturday and doubt I'll be able to resist. Insurance will be eye watering until I regain some NCB - really annoying as I had 10 years, but it's only valid for 2 years without insuring again. Will need to fit a tracker and a steering damper, might have to sell a dog...

  • I've knew somebody who bought a shit old banger of a 50cc moped to keep a no claims and a private reg plate for a year or two while not riding. Apparently

  • Yep, should have done that. Hindsight...

  • Yeah with hindsight, lots of things would have been different.

Would getting a shitty bike reduce your insurance as technically the MV would be a second bike.

  • Probs not as you’d have no no claim bonus, and you’d need to start a new policy.

Certainly didn’t when I went to insure the same scooter but with no claims to add on.

    Was about 50 percent more

  • Insurance logic doesn't make sense to me.

  • I wouldn’t have gone for 50cc and 125cc - they often carry a high insurance premium, especially scooters, because how many get nicked and crashed. But yea, the continuously insured thing is definitely a thing.

  • Certain bigger than 125 scooters are faves to be stolen, well in London and used in crime.

  • In fairness, the person I'm thinking of did it nearly 20 years ago and in Shropshire so cost was probably not a concern.

  • I guess it’s scoot scoots in general.

125’s are notoriously expensive to insure because of L plates and irresponsible storage.

  • I'm fairly sure it's not me, but I've run mopeds in Shropshire for the last 20 years or so!
More than 40 years old makes them historic vehicles, so zero road tax and no requirement for an MOT, which means a non runner with a V5 is a possibility.
Fully comprehensive insurance (Footman James classic) has been less than £100 for two mopeds until last year - not sure how much you'd save in maintaining a decent no claims bonus?

  • Test rode the 1300.

    Buying a 1300.

  • Conclusion?

  • Good. Fucking. God.

  • Has anyone bought a bike off Copart before? Seems like some great bargain project bike potential?

Any other recommendations for insurance write off bike auctions in UK also?

  • I bought my street triple from them and a car (slk200)
Car was a great buy but the bike had a knackered engine - you have no comeback so beware

  • This is going to sounds stupid but it feels like a completely different bike.

Feels much, much smaller than the 1250. At first, I wasn’t sure that was a good thing but I did an hour on it and it felt great.

Suspension is noticeably better, so is tip in. I think they’ve moved the weight around. Adaptive ride height is cool. The windscreen is half the height of the old one but does a better job at wind protection.

It feels more like a tracer 900 size.

Just waiting to hear on build date vs national stock to see when I will get one.

  • Be careful as they are a bunch of fuckin shady bastards Copart.

  • Yes very much so.

Look at all the costs of purchase, and make sure the bike is as described. Lots of the cars and bikes I viewed weren't pre COVID and during it just got silly

  • And now you cant view them.

Sometimes selling Cat B's that shouldn't be sold to non breakers, Copart are a shambles!

  • Doesn't sound stupid at all.

    Happy new bike

  • Still, thought it was COVID only. But maybe they learnt that missing parts that workers took such stuff like parcel shelves, tool kits and spare tyre bits to sell on. Was a perk.

I've refused two cars from them, they delivered and the cars gained more damage and missing parts one was missing ignition keys that were there as videos of vehicle running with key and the second was not the car I bid on. The leather interior had disappeared so suspected a different car was sent.

Was a ball ache to get a refund and account not be blocked. Turning up to collect was also a pain as drove all the way to Brum to watch them drop the car off the forklift.

  • Would not want.
