  • That's stunning. Well done !

  • We bought a bronze fennel once, it now appears all over our garden. I don't mind it but cut the flowers off before they form seeds if you don't want it spreading.

  • Have left quite a large patch of the garden to do its own thing this year. Dominated by forget-me-not, creeping buttercup and green alkanet atm. Quite a lot of self-seeded chard in there too. Not bothering to clear it until we want to put something else there. Bees seem happy.

  • Keep the pictures coming please folks, I love seeing other peoples gardens and ideas.

I had to get the greenhouse organised today before I go away next week. The tomatos and peppers are a bit wee but they’ll just have to get going - they’ve already hardened off.
This year I’ve crammed in -

    1. 4x Gardeners Delight (Cherry toms)
    2. 2x Mini cucumbers
    3. 3x Sweet Yellow Pepper
    4. 3x Hot wax chilli
    5. 2x Shirley Toms
    6. 4x San Marzano Toms

All the stuff behind will probably end up in the allotment - runner beans, French beans, sunflowers, cosmos, sweet peas…

The thing I’m most chuffed with is the Harvst solar powered irrigation. All the pots are watered twice daily via the 2x200l waterbutts and spray misters are activated if the temp stays over 30°c for an hour. Consistent watering totally improved the crop last year except now I need to buy another for my mums greenhouse 🤨

  • Those are interesting containers, very spikey! Are they something special?

  • SE people, I strongly recommend Alexandra Nurseries in Sydenham. Absolutely beautiful place, a cafe where you can sit amongst the plants, wisteria dangling, random lean-tos everywhere, fancy tools, and got a lot of 9cm perennials for £5-£10 each. Staff hanging out with their families drinking tea. Just excellent

  • Great shout. My dog only wees on the edges though

  • Love that. Great trough - I was looking at one of those for once the decking is done.

  • That meadow is awesome, well done.

  • They definitely do the job but they can suffer with evaporation when they get hot. I top ours up from the rainwater butts if it gets desperate.
Looking forward to getting rid of the play tower we got the kid and creating a proper pond but he’s still quite attached to it!

  • @ColinTheBald - Thanks for the patio pointing tips. I was a bit nervous about how much was breaking up when starting knocking away old loose stuff, but it wasn’t too bad in the end. With extra mortar I’d mixed also got around to fixing a birdbath, and filled a couple of drill holes in the house pointing where silicon sealant had been used previously. That’s my first time doing anything cement-ey, and only used a tiny amount from a 25kg bag, so will be looking for all the cement jobs for a while.

  • Presuming you bought the cement in a plastic bag, not the paper bag… then just make sure you really try to seal the open edge up by rolling it over and sticking a brick on top. It will absorb moisture out of the air and the next time you go to use, it will have set like a rock.

  • That had not occurred to me. Yes it’s in plastic. Have rolled the top and clipped with a clothes peg, but will try to make more air tight. Cheers.

  • ....and keep it in a dry shed.

  • That bit I can do.

  • Penge, please.

  • Ahh, so it is. I approached it via Sydenham.

Is it too late to be planting stuff out now? Really want to fill a few more gaps but should I wait for autumn?

  • Our rhubarb always comes up early and big. It's suddenly faded and gone flat and limp. Seems too early but maybe it just has an early start and finish? Do you guys feed and water a lot during the season? It got a good manure mulch early spring.

  • end of garden room feeling cloistered and cozy
