Finally got a chance to see what was flying above all week, a typhoon at 1200ft doing loops and twists. Amazing to see!
Flying above us for about 30mins like a private airshow

bounced landing and go-around at LAX
-
• #3255
Why did that bounce happen? Sorry if obvious, total amateur here
-
• #3256
Hey no such thing as a silly question.
The pilot landed the plane too forcefully, then pulled it up into the air a bit, dropped it back down, and then accelerated into the air again. ๐
-
• #3257
So maybe pilot error? I was waiting for some mad crosswind to hit the plane and it never came!
-
• #3259
So yeah. Pilot error ๐

• #3260
Flared pretty late on the second approach as well. Even the video commentators mentioned it.

The height of the cockpit in a 747 means you hit the runway much sooner than expected. Pilot clearly hasn't spent enough time in Microsoft Flight Simulator before having a go for real.

Was a pilot in training apparently. Not sure why Lufthansa still training pilots on the 747, they are one of the last major airlines still flying them and presumably not for much longer.
The reason for the go-around is because the bounce puts the plane into an unstable configuration so the safest thing to do is get it in the air again ASAP then have another go
Edit: explained well here https://www.boldmethod.com/learn-to-fly/maneuvers/how-to-recover-from-a-bounced-landing-and-safely-touch-down/#:~:text=If%20you%20let%20it%20continue,the%20safest%20thing%20to%20do.

Really interesting video. Winter operations for a Santa special to Pajala airport in northern Sweden. Just about all the operations done by one man.

Planned new transatlantic outfit Global Airlines have leased an A380, but had to fly it all the way from the Mojave storage facility to Prestwick with the landing gear down, because Mojave didn't have the right service kit :/

I swear to god, DCS is going to be the reason I end up spending thousands on a desktop PC.
-
• #3266
Be warned that whatever you spend on the PC is only the begining.

I have trouble processing how far PC flight sims have come. In my head, theyโre still supposed to look like this:

It's getting better ay.
Good for me as always had an itch to be a flyer.
Fortunately got bored in a few weeks and removed DCS from said PC.
Career box ticked.

Last flight sim I played was Falcon 3
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falcon_3.0
There are the remnants of several games PC's in the spare bedroom courtesy teenagers now left home.
They seem so realistic I'm tempted to try and put something together and try a more modern flight sim

3x Stratotankers + 2x Super Hercules over Poland.
The tankers are operating from Germany, before returning to Mildenhall. Seen half a dozen C5/C17 in/out of Germany, then Hercs further East.
