Iceland, rent a small 4wd, go see all the interesting things but personally wouldn't plan everything around the northern lights, they'll either happen or they won't. Obviously check the forecast, go out at night away from city lights, etc.

I was in Iceland for 4 months and saw sweet FA. YMMV.

We need a thread for this in the UK. For warnings and timings so I don’t miss it. I have an app that tells me but EVEN WITH THAT and going out at 10:30 to look, I didn’t see much, and so I went to bed, and missed it all.
I’m sure we didn’t have northern lights ever when I was a child. Are they better at predicting it? Has magnetic north shifted in our favour? Has climate change affected something?

I can't believe we missed this. What are the chances this evening of more being visible.

stars / astronomy thread >>>>>>>>>>>
someone on there will be able to link you to the nasa / solar activity website which is a good predictor of the aurora brightness
All, comments and help welcome.
I'm planning on taking my good lady wife to see the Northern lights. Somewhere like Iceland or Norway.
Has anyone out there been before? Do I need to book a tour as such or can I just book flights and accommodation and do the rest myself? Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.
