Installation of GRX822 rear derailleur?

Posted on
  • I'm not having a great time installing a GRX822 rear derailleur.
Using an 11-51t 11speed cassette and following a YouTube hack, that assures me that the 12speed rear derailleur will play nicely with 11speed shifters, I'm not getting good shifting performance.

I cannot find an installation manual for this derailleur anywhere and am having trouble setting the b-screw position to place the cage at the correct height relative to the cassette. Does it fit with a standard chain, or do you need an extra long chain? It's currently sitting a bit low. It'll shift to the 51t sprocket, but is quite reluctant to shift to the 11t.

I'm using a Deore XT chain, 36t chainring 11-51t cassette, so was expecting the chain length to be correct.

    Any tips would be welcome.

  • Shimano have started merging manuals for similar products so there isn't a separate manual for the RD-RX822 it is shared with RD-RX820 and the direct mount version and they show things like different cable routes etc. for each model

  • That's excellent. Exactly what I was looking for. Looks like I need a longer chain!

  • Added 2 links and everything works perfectly.
So annoying that the Shimano chain was too short.
