  • Does anyone else want to know what I did/do modding motorbike seats?

  • As much as I’d love to, I still wouldn’t bother with electric yet. It’s nowhere where cars are yet. Real world mileage reports are shite.

    New GS is looking good. Much more compact than the latest crop of ‘adventure’ stuff. That extras book is fucking massive.

    You want capable or interesting? Why not switch it up a bit and try smaller? The Guzzi tourer looks good.

  • Id love to get one of the BMW blade runner esk scooters but yeah they are expensive and the mileage is shit.

  • My VFR (3rd Gen) was absolutely bog stock when I got it, with very low miles. I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised about how good the suspension is. I weigh 75kg or so. It's like a magic carpet over the rough stuff - you can take take the sort of liberties with it that have sports bikes tied up in knots. The only problem was that it sat too low at the rear, which wasn't a preload issue, but a ride height one. With it raised a bit, It's great. You could make it stiffer, but you'd lose the compliance that makes it so nice to ride.

    That said, most older bikes definitely benefit from having the suspension rebuilt, front and rear.

    Acquaintances own the company moving our shit. In fact they're buying our current home to live in. Full trust.

    When it came to moving the motorcycle He's said "we strap it to a pallet and load it on the truck". It seemed like a remarkably unsophisticated explanation, but I didn't want to push it.

    Anything I should know or ask?

  • Sounds fine to me - just make sure they strap it sensibly. No point crating it if it’s going by one company.

  • Speaking of VFRs my mate is selling this lovely 1997 one if anyone is keen?

  • Mileage was pretty good on test ride. Just need 90 miles per day of mixed riding. My concern is the company not existing which is a very real possibility.

    I would buy a comparable BMW electric bike today if it has the range.

    Not sure about smaller bikes. Had a Tracer 9 for a while and liked it but tank size and comfort in bad weather on the motorway were big reasons for going bigger.

  • My concern would be whether the range holds up on an aged battery in cold weather once you get towards the other end of the pcp/lease.

  • Yeah, a lease would remove some of that issue as it's their problem. We've had EVs for a while now and battery degradation is largely non existent.

    There are stories of lots of trips back to dealers for Zeros which I don't fancy.

  • Reckon anything that size and stance of the GS in electric form would be so fucking heavy it’d remove any existing fun aspect out of owning two wheels.

    Had a sit on the new Multi V4. They really got the position right. Sounds great in stock form too. Large object though.

  • Might see if I can test a Multi on Saturday too. There's a Ducati dealer just down the road from me. Don't want to fall in love though :-D

  • I’ll resist trying the Desert X as long as feasible.
    Saying that, one of the bikes I’ve ever used and felt instantly right on was the Multi 950. Would in a heartbeat.

  • Multistrada and Desert X both look lush.

    @Soul would a Yamaha Ténéré / Aprilia Tuareg be too small, they both look like a lot of fun?

  • Yeah, I do about 50 miles of the 90 on motorways every day and 700s just don't do it for me. Wind protection isn't great and most are geared too short at 70/75mph so you just get harsh vibes.

  • The guy that let me try his multi V4 commutes from Bedford to London 3 times a week on it. He said he’s had zero issues so far. Saying that, he did say it’s super hot in start stop riding.

  • The main thing that turns me off the V4 is a chain. Shaft drive for zero issues with salt covered winter riding etc is great.

  • I dunno man, it’s hardly the 80’s anymore. I think final drive issues are the same all around.
    I’ve been hammering the tiger all winter Road and dirt and the Scottoiler has kept me pretty happy for said time.

    If anything, I’ve had more bouncy bit issues than chain.

  • V2 multi worth a try as well as V4. The new Guzzi Stelvio looks interesting too.

  • I really like the Guzzi but I'd feel terrible riding it through a UK winter.

    What about a monster KTM? 1400cc of V twin must surely put some lead in the pencil.
