I have used Easyjet the last few years in a Scicon soft bag with internal base frame, never had an issue.
Some airlines in some airports offer a twilight check-in if you have an early flight, this is great if you live close or are staying close to the airport, dump the bike off the night before when it is quiet and then head straight to security the next morning.
