Damn that’s fast!
I chipped another second off my local Parkrun pb with the toddler in the babyjogger, 20:17, but I think I could go comfortably sub 20 with the buggy on an easier course. My local one is an out and back with a bit of a valley at 1km with a steep descent/ascent both ways, and a 500m long incline from 2-2.5km.
I rarely get to Parkrun without the toddler these days but last time I ran it solo on tired legs I managed a 19:30. I think I could see a time staring with 18 if I got there solo now.

Oof, nice one. Off relatively low mileage at the moment too?
(At least compared to some of the 100k+ a week marathon folk) -
• #30354
Very impressive - I know I said I'm quite fast a few pages back, I take it back!
-
• #30355
That's a fast time. Well done!

Bang. Thanks all. Now I’ve done more reading, it does sound, and especially feel like the IT band.
I thought I’d be fine since I’m on my feet all day. Turns out you use totally different muscle groups.I’ll get some kit and build up strength.

Ultra life is not for me.
Last few km were an absolute slog. FaceTime from wife and daughter helped much more than the pain suisse a few km before! -
• #30358
Cheers all!
@duncs - yeah, got over 50 mpw for peak HM training earlier in the year, but generally 40 - 45mpw at the moment. Typical week is just 5/6 mile easy runs in the week, pr Saturday and long run 12/13 on Sunday.
Next scheduled race is 5,000m at Southern Athletics League at Dartford in 2 weeks. Haven't set foot on the track for over 2 years but logic says it should be quicker than a (slightly wiggly) parkrun course. Something about "proper athletics" on an actual track really gets the nerves jangling!

Which one did you do?
Last 10km of the half east Devon round were a definite slog here
-
• #30360
Oh I just made a route and did it on my own
-
• #30361
Amazing! Well done man. Yeah I bet the end part was tough but you must be feeling pretty good in a type 2 way.
How was the route? -
• #30362
Also did a big PR today at a HM in Victoria Park, 1:21.33, which is 5 mins faster than my previous best two years ago and last year.
Used the Takumi Sen 8s in the end.

managed a 20k today. the last 7 hurt and had to stop and have stretch a few times. but pleased i made it

I’m glad I changed it - I looped back home. I think finishing in Hyde park was a nice idea but the reality of getting a tube home would suck.
I played 5 aside football yesterday, so can’t say it was great prep. But was a lovely day for it.
Feel good to have gotten it done but that part of a marathon at 32km where you tell yourself there’s just 10k to hold on felt rough bc you’ve got like 20 left!

💪🏼

• #30366
Haha jfc 5-a-side definitely didn’t help!
Yeah, first time you cross a marathon distance and still have more to go is a “ohhhh shit here we go” stepping into the unknown feeling. Hope you’re enjoying a beer or other approved recreational reward.

Don’t drink these days - so it’s a cup of tea and a yard sale pizza!

Are Streakflys good for a training shoe? I've been keen to try them but read widely that they're not great on durability so I was going to stay with something a bit cheaper for non-races...
-
• #30369
I’d think that a Alphafly would be quicker than a Streakfly and have much more usability for the average runner.
-
• #30370
Streakfly is fairly low stack and essentially made to be the closest thing to track spikes in a road shoe using the current super shoe formula of squish and plate.
Probably a great shoe for to train in for fast workouts and short races but Nike’s PEBAX does not like being used in the wet, so wouldn’t use it all week.If you just want a super light low stack trainer that can be used for high speed stuff then also look at the Takumi Sen. Great all rounder, weighs fuck all and Lightsgrike pro lasts waaaay longer than PEBA(x).

• #30371
Didn’t get on with the streakflys. Sole came apart in several parts and delaminated (?). They felt decent enough but was left wishing Nike still made peg turbos!

Different shoe.

Having had both. The he next nature feel the exact same.
Just look way worse very quickly.

• #30375
Yeah I read it’s very similar - maybe I should try them oit
16:36!!!??? That’s actually bananas. Well done.
I’m a big fan of the Takumi Sen. I have the 8 which can be found cheap (as can the 9) but the newer version 10 has carbon rods instead of plastic so it’s a much stiffer shoe and apparently faster. That said, Emile Cairess ran 2:08 in the 9s last year.
