A question on guitar setup, I realise this is probably one of those questions that has a lot of info that's purely speculative, but I'm interested to hear other people's takes on it.
But what's your go-to method for setting pickup height. I'm guessing there's compromise between output level & sustain. Do people just aim for a fixed distance between the string and pickups? Or is it more governed by targeting a certain amount of output level, or difference in output level over time? Or just wing it and see what seems to work?
Obviously a lot of this stuff can be compensated for via a compressor or similar, but curious to hear what other's have to say on it.

I tend to default to Fender’s setup guide for the Tele for most things, (particularly anything with a 25.4” scale length should work with the same figures).
There’s a bit for pickup heights near the bottom which is a good starting point, and then dial them out to balance volume levels between pickups.

Yup.
Managed not to fuck up a Reverb sale today. Hooray. Sold an Epi EB-3 bass yesterday with free shipping and wanted to get it on its way before the b/h so a slightly hectic morning scrounging and modifiying boxes, buying tape and bubblewrap and queueueueing at the Post Office. Hoovering up the massive fucking mess of disintegrated polysyrene packaging my son made while I was distacted trying to build a packing case out of an old dining table box and three miles of gaffa tape. Hopefully all the effort sees it off to its new home safely. https://reverb.com/uk/item/81659134-epiphone-eb-3-2010s-ebony
Now, the P-Bass shopping begins!

What do we think about Reverb btw? Seems a better pool to fish in in that the geeric alternatives but the fees are hefty.

Also, i have a big announcement to make. Guys... I've completed Guitar YouTube. I've seen it all. Some of it twice. I'm done. Woo!

I much prefer selling music gear on Reverb to the other alternatives. Hardly any time-wasters, if at all. And it gets stuff in front of musicians for sure. I just price the fees in, usually. Always been happy with what I've been able to get for stuff.
Before I ended up with my Player Jag bass (full scale JB neck, P/J pickups) I had a folder full of nice looking P-basses I was eyeing. Rosewood on Capri Orange I was a particular fan of.

Local luthier had a beautifully worn '61 Jazzmaster on the bench when I dropped off my Gibson acoustic. Dream guitar right there 🤤.

Great prices for a classic vibe thinline. Not far off the price of an affinity model

Sorry about the Bezos.

I hate those thin lines
Mark an x on the stage. This is the only place the guitarist can stand without summoning the shrieking uncontrollable feedback. -

shrieking uncontrollable feedback
My old mate Tony has played a Thinline his whole career precisely because of this! Tho' TBF to him he's very good at controlling it when he wants to.

It’s more a case of turning up to band prac’ and the guitarist grinning like it’s free ice cream day, pulls a brand new slimline from the case having never used one at any real volume before
It sounds more like mic feedback as well, so fair play to your buddy if he can tame it

Anyone selling a P -bass? Pref 60s vibe with rosewood board but happy to be led astray.

I’m off to Japan in 6 weeks. Hoping to pick up a second hand Japan made fender thinline there for decent money.
Also just
Checked out the Fender flagship store in Shibiyu, I can see some merch being bought there too. -

Price range? Saw this the other day while scrolling Fender Fever and thought it looked very handsome.

Edit: They have an '89 MIJ for £900 as well - https://fenderfever.com/products/2545

Ooooh. That really couldn't be any more up my street. I can't really justify the spend tho... or can I?
I dunno man, I was hoping to find something under £700 which means Mex (Vintera?) or Squier these days. I have seen one or two 1990s Japanese P's for that price. EDIT there are a couple in there for £820. Still over budget but very handsome. https://fenderfever.com/products/2548

Their photography is upsettingly good. 😂
There are several guitars they currently have that really push my buttons (this for example). Good thing I'm skint.
For me, on a 60s Precision, a nice dark rosewood board looks the business, and the MIJs have that. Even the new Vintera IIs, which are back to being rosewood instead of laurel, don't look right to me, and not just the fingerboard, the sunburst looks off to me, e.g.:
And they're a grand new now.

It's hard to know if it's the lighting as well. Looking at the Jap vs the Vintera side by side, the former looks like a three colour burst from black to red to brown, while the latter looks straight two black to brown. Plus the pickguard on the Jap one looks almost glowingly reddy orange compared to the much more subdued and dark Vintera. How much is the light and the photos tho? Dunno.
EDIT - just seen the ad, that picture is from, it clearly states three colour burst. The price seems way too high tho. Peach Guitars in Colchester i'm looking at you.
I really like this one (not 60s, not rosewod I know but c'mon that colour!) https://reverb.com/uk/item/81458762-fender-vintera-50s-precision-bass-with-maple-fretboard-2021-seafoam-green

If you’re happy to be led as far astray as a jazz bass I’ve been half heartedly trying to sell this for a bit:
Price would drop further on here as well :)

Man's that's lovely, thank you, but i'm really after a P.
I sold a (Squier ) Jazz recently, I do love the sound of a J, but I'm so much more comfortable on the P bass nut and neck width.
Plus J basses are annoying as fuck to put in a stand or lean on anything!

That’s the colour combo on my Squier JM!
