The author of that article is absolutely gushing over anything Ronnie does it seems, and seems to ignore him treating the ref like a child and Ronnie's "the refs have it out for me" comments.
I'm no expert, but from what I saw, the ball was rolling off the spot to block the red, and had been all game. Due to Ronnie making sure it was correctly on the spot, he was able to get a better shot on the red, and elected not to take it.
Not sure on the reasoning for not taking the pot on after having the black moved to its proper spot. Either it wasn't on even after the black was moved further out of the path, or it was on and he decided not to take it. From what I can see here, it doesn't look like it's on:

The comments on this are pretty much unanimous that O'Sullivan was trying to get the ref riled up and make the shot easier. My friend who watched it said the opposite and agreed with the article? 🤔
