They had Jean Arnault on just as LVMH (who are also an investor in Hoodwinkee) were on a big publicity push, launching the new Tambour and promoting their independent watchmaking prize. Happens all the time. It's just more highly paid now. IIRC back in the day they had a chef pal of Ben "Social" Clymer on one time and he was basically promoting his restaurant.
Don't forget Hoodwinkee are in a bad place right now. They over-reached when they bought Crown & Caliber to start selling preowned and there have been multiple waves of layoffs recently. Everything they publish is fair game for motivations/interests being questioned.
