  • It’s a 996.1 3.4 Carrera 4, won’t get my hands on it for a few weeks. On the subject of insurance, it seems relatively cheap for some reason, actually cheaper than what I paid for the R53???

  • Nice, yeah insurance is very cheap for my Boxster - £200 a year for 4000miles

  • My quote is based on 6000 and was very reasonable, I did play around with the miles a bit but I won't do huge amounts in it, I think 10,000 was an extra £70. I would have considered a Boxter, but have kids so useful to have the rear seats which they're at a good age to fit into now and again.

  • I'll put you onto the guy who sorted the finance on my ute, they've got a sweet little deal with Suncorp. I got quoted $2,200 by Suncorp directly, he went to them and came back with $940. I saved more money on the insurance than on the finance he got me.

  • Mounts for the heat shield over the exhaust had corroded so it was loose and making the clanking sound. They're going to fabricate/fix that within the hour for the princely sum of £46.

  • My C55 had done that- made a clanking noise when you shut the boot

  • Yeah, it was driving me a bit nuts as I swore it was the suspension, but didn't happen on every bump. Just couldn't think for the life of me what it was. I could recreate it by pushing down on the boot. But, there you go, sorted soon for cheap. Asked them to check all four corners and they say it's all sound.

  • I wonder if that could be the squeeking on our car.

I keep meaning to write a proper explanation and post a video here for thoughts.

I always remember fishing out an absolutely humongous bolt from inside the swing arms which is a good eg of garages misdiagnosing improbable issues.

  • As the comments state, if you don't have cruise control the replacement badge is considerably cheaper as it doesn't have to be made in a way to let the radar magic through.

Buying parts is always like this. I remember 20+ years ago a motorbike magazine priced up a £6k bike that was £50k+ if you ordered all of the parts individually.

The cost of having cheap cars is expensive replacement parts. If you want cheaper parts the base car price will have to go up a lot.

(I'm for the cars in the smelter option.)

  • Love the idea of that! I ended up leaving the car at a mates a town away for the rest of the week, and have got a steering wheel lock, Faraday pouches and a camera looking out from the window.

All feels a bit much, but Skoda claimed they can't recode the key as it's hardcoded to the immobiliser, so it'll put my mind to rest a bit.

  • My mum had a mk1 mx5 BITD and there was a phase of the front side lights getting nicked round us. Then nicked again once they were replaced.

Iic they were something mad like £200 or £400 each. Which is probably why they were getting stolen.

  • When I lived in Aberdeen one of my wing mirrors glass was stolen as was the coloured cap.

They didn’t break any clips so it was obviously stolen to replace theirs. If it wasn’t for the replacement prices I would have found it funny although can chuckle about it now. Zero damage just two small parts missing.

  • Thanks, but I did try Suncorp after getting a good deal for my dad when he bought his car. I think they have a special preferential rate for car buyers. Unfortunately Suncorp won't cover my modified Peugeot. Which is odd as they underwrite Shannon's who does cover mods!

  • I know, right! I had to go with Shannon's in the end too, the only game in town for an import it seems. I saved a hunnert bux going to 365 for road assist so that wasn't so bad in the end.

I'm currently on train #1 on the way to pick up the car. Bus, train, train, car. 2hrs20mins in total. 😴

  • Ok estate nerds, riddle me this- which estate cars (or similar) would this lot go in in this orientation?

  • My brother in law has an A6, he's measuring to see. It's the height of 83cm that is the concern

  • Tesla model Y. Maybe even with the back seats up.

  • STi is home, safe and sound. Drives great, brakes are shit, spongy and hardly there, that's the first order of business.

It feels fantastic, pics tomorrow. I had to dash home, swap cars, drop client home and now I'm at Brisbane airport waiting to pick up @nny. This is gonna be a fun car, service booked for the 21st, hoping for the best.

  • That sounds like typical Subaru brakes.
Not a lot of servo assistance - 4 pots and braided lines will improve things

  • Range rover sv8

  • Boot on the Octavia is 82cm tall. Width is 101 and length is 99 with seats up, 190 with seats down. Non VRS you can fold the passenger seat down too.

  • Cheers, so - I have a girth issue.

  • Sorry.
