I'm trying to restore a VERY old ipad mini back to working again - it doesn't have to do anything other than run an OS and be able to run something like paper.io, music, etc. It's sole job will be a device that isn't connected to the world of social media and is used to help calm someone down.
I've managed to get it into factory restore mode - it's an original ipad mini from 2010s....(looks nice).
I get this message - the ipad could not be updated. an unknown error occurred (9) 0609.0000
Which i think is a way of saying "this is fucking ancient, buy a new one". Is there a way around this?
I think it's so old it needs itunes to restore it, but I don't have anything running itunes...
How old? Basically, Apple will stop supporting older hardware after a while, so at some point you can no longer update it. I think you may have reached that point. Does googling for the error code throw up anything?
