I'd wondered about the signs on the viaduct

Hey, is this still going strong? I am hoping to move to Winch this year and would be very keen to join or create a food related enterprise.

I was there a few weeks ago, stopped off on a ride, it's still going (though I can't confirm ownership or anything like that). The breakfast baguettes are incredible.
There is another cycling cafe in the centre of town called 'South Downs Social' which is a similar concept I think if youre researching the area.

The Handlebar Cafe has been sold to new owners - the grapevine says the new owners plan to open a series of similar cafes along the South Downs Way. The South Downs Social is a decent cafe, but one unit awy is the Corner Deli which does pretty good (if pricey) local/artisinal stuff. But there's a lot of interesting food situations going on in the area.

similar cafes along the South Downs Way.
Wonder where theyll put them. Cadence have a few, and a few unique ones. Not tons of infrastructure on the South Downs for new cafes.

Ah, that explains the change - it’s not what it was.

Tell me they were still doing the breakfast baguettes...

It's actually Cadence that are the new owners. The previous Bespoke Biking shop is now open again as well - there is a name change though.

Good intel! I see it's called 'Cadence at the Handlebar Cafe' now.
Might ride over to see what it's like this weekend. What's the bespoke bike shop? Is it close by, might take a peek.

It's in the Brooks, next to another cycling cafe, which I forget the name of - something to do with the South Downs IIRC.

It's a CIC selling pre-owned bike and servicing and custom builds. They've just reopened doors. The new manager previously set up BikeX (which is also just round the corner and also does secondhand bikes).
The South Downs Social cafe started as The Handmade Cyclist, selling posters and prints and similar stuff. They've got a nice space on and put races on the tv and sometimes talks.

Finally popped in today passing through.
The Handlebar cafe was good, bacon roll was really nice, coffee was ok.
The CIC was busy, didn't need anything so wasn't in there long. BikeX I passed to, had a little nose.
Nice to see so many bike shops and spaces.
Those above, also saw a Hoops and a 99Bikes I think it was.

That looks like a pretty acceptable bacon roll!

My cousin has project coordinating the architectural aspects of this social enterprise venture - a new cycle themed/based café in Winchester - it will incorporate a workshop and run events and should be open in a couple of months.
The social enterprise project is being carried out by Spud Youth (I believe) and has sought to give young people/graduates/creatives a chance to develop something high quality and special and, as a first class honours graduate and winner of (can't remember the award name) the award for highest marks for graduates at Bournemouth Uni Architecture class of 2017, he got the prime role.
Please look it up and like me, if you're ever up that way, drop in and check it out.
To that end if anyone would like his contact details for anything work related - he's also a fully qualified electrician (mid 20s so went to Uni after 8 years electrician work - just ask. Cheers
