I’d use the standard Brompton firm block at 70kg

I've heard (via my LBS) that some of these third party, metal suspensions have caused damage where it contacts the frame and rear triangle. Would really like a super firm block, but one of a softer material. Pretty sure Joseph Kuosac (sic?) does them.

Didn't people used to put a hose clip round the standard block and adjust to suit?

Anyone here have a spare Brompton they’d like to swap with a me for a Ritchey Breakaway?
-
• #15131
I wish I did lol. Not that I'd actually travel with the breakaway, but I think it's cool!

Never heard of this one. Sounds like a hack that could work, but would eventually eat into the rubber (if it's rubber). This is the suspension I was thinking of: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/frames/joseph-kuosac-suspension-block-for-bromptons-super-firm-black/
I should seriously just buy it.

i did this over the weekend - took a lot of filing of the hub but couldn't get the standard circlip on.
ended up filing the circlip too and that did the trick - although it's meant i took too much off the circlip so theres a bit of play in the casette.
needs to fix this - but so far the shifting works pretty well with a 3 speed sturmey archer shifter.
for ref - my frame (2009) takes an 18t

Carbon (brompton) rear aero disc wheelset sir? Step this way...
Nice wheels on this site but aero disc for the commute may be a little much.

Hi folks I’m probably being daft, but I bought an older Brompton for my brother of a friend and it doesn’t have the lever for the rear wheel to unlock when one wants to fold, feel free to tell me I’m
Nuts and daft stupid ( and bad at the google) but did earlier models just not have this? -
• #15137
I'm fairly sure the earlier models didn't have this. So whenever you picked up the bike, the back wheel would flop into the folded position. Someone will be along shortly to confirm .

His one is the black one, so weird I just noticed it when I borrowed it

Correct, they were just a bit floppy (although I think my first one did have a very simple retaining arm along the top of the suspension block to stop it folding as you went over a speed bump or similar). From memory the current QR lever and suspension block assembly will fit older Bromptons, but it needs the whole thing replacing as the suspension block and stop disk are different as this is where the catch for the qr lever is.

Ok, gotcha…. That’s a bit annoying! I guess a good Velcro strap would work?
-
• #15142
But thanks for the info!

Double sided Velcro may be your friend. Hooks on one side, eyes on the other. Just wrap it around. PM me a postal addy and I'll stick some in the post to you.

Wow that’s so generous, thank you will do now

Brompton sell a kit to add the locking mechanism and lever to older Brompton, easy to fit at home.

Thanks would be interested to see it, I can’t find it, do you have a link… ?
Also if anyone is interested I have a pair of standard brom mudguards ( v second hand) up for grabs? Free just postage from Brighton? ( not the best offering for a lot of help I’ve received) -

I could use those if available!
Do they have a double and a half layer block for those of us who are pretty much bang on 70kg?
