SA hub gears?

I have a hard time deciding how I feel about this build

Amazing!

Agree. Especially Chromed anything on an off-road bike, if indeed it is chromed. Hard no. They have said the rear triangle is ‘Columbus’ not 853, which is vague.

It will be chromed. There's no brazing visible and there would be if it was raw, polished stainless. Also silver brazing goes a not too pretty blue-green colour eventually with tarnishing.

at least we know what a crust evasion lite would look like designed by protestant northerners
-

Ah! Of course, hadn’t considered the brazing. Didn’t know about the tarnishing.

Glad you approve!

Yes, fixed

I hear all the above points, but I still really like it!

Would also help a lot if the picture quality was better.
Still like the way BJ is heading now -

Did you just assume our religion?

Hi all, thanks for the comments.
Rear end (and lugs) are indeed chromed rather than stainless, not sure what the reservation with chrome on an off road bike is? Tougher than a paint finish so better protection from chain slap etc, plus shiny. Bike will be looked after, it's not a winter commuter.
The build was put together to be functional for the "gravel"/SFAB around Yorkshire and the hilly roads that connect it all. A shiny silver triple, bar end shifters and klampers would have been pretty, maybe next time.
Chrome is an option @Skülly , we're also looking at options for mounting plant pots in bottle cages for the "at one with nature" vibe, are you happy to consult on this?
With the weather turning the shop has been busier so not had a chance to get back on here with photos. Please see attached.

Touché re plant pots. Good memory
I just feel like chrome + damp is a recipe for bubbling & lifting plating. I might be talking crap, but given stainless tubesets exist, I’d have expected the posh shiny gear would be made of it.

This is perfection!

I guess we'll see how it wears, I've got a chrome BMX from 1995 that has been stored in various high humidity locations and no bubbling.
Stainless would have been even more expensive than this and as @PhilDAS brazing stainless doesn't guarantee perfection/longevity when left raw/polished.
Tig welding stainless is a different prospect, but not the aesthetic we're going for.

1995 chrome ≠ 2024 chrome though right?
-

Taiwanese chrome ≠ Leeds proper Yorkshire chrome though right?

Fair point. I guess my experience of chrome being scarily prone is on ancient vintagey bits.
Bike looks great. And the chrome helps.

Err S-Works rang to remind you to charge more
Rebuilt my 1974 Bob Jackson, first commute on it today.
