Hehehehe

If the cranks are anodized it might be worth it. My painted ones took way too long. But than again I didn't use any paint stripper, only sand paper and elbow grease...

I do have quite a bit of NaOH left after the seatpost business. Might give it a go. No idea what it'll do to powdercoat (if that's what it is), I've only tried it on ano before.

I have a 170mm Deore MT60 crankset lying around, if you pay the postage (I guess from NL to SE it's EUR 12,50) I'll send it to you. 110 BCD triple. I also have a few NW chainrings in various sizes to go with it.

Extremely generous of you - like these?

I think as a stipulating compensating gesture you should put those other monstrosoties in a bath with the leftover NaOH till destruction. Would probably look even better afterwards. -

Hero!

Yes, exactly, sort of the same aesthetic condition as well. No dust caps though. Shoot me a PM if you'd like them. :)

So, crisis averted and it seems I’ll be putting a nice retro triple on this instead of the sensible, modern and apparently horrid option, courtesy of the gallant and unselfish @vpCogworks . Thanks again!
While waiting for parts I’ve amused myself by patching up the worn down flite. A bit of sanding, some contact adhesive, piece of thin leather and some more sanding. Not sure it’ll hold up but we’ll see.

rat saddle looks good!
Some adhesive on top of the seam to help avoid peeling maybe? -

apparently horrid option
Come on man. You have eyes. They must hurt when looking at those molten Shimano contraptions.
Good work on the saddle! -

Yeah ok, I'll admit it's ugly but that was kind of the point with this project. Anyway I managed to cancel the cranks before the order was sent so won't even have to return it. Some of the stuff coming towards me currently:
Not sure I need/want the rear pannier but it was cheap. I'll start by ziptieing a basket to the little front rack.

Finally have most of the parts to build this up. Quick mockup was all I had time for tonight.

Finished the build and rode it round the block. Fit seems spot on, super comfy. Brakes are good. The chain skipped quite a bit in gears 3-5 at the back and it looks like the cassette is quite worn - no surprise I suppose, will order a new one. Otherwise happy with the result so far.

Very nice pub bike indeed.

Super cool! And the cranks indeed suit this bike a lot better than the bottom of my parts bin! :P

It's looking much too nickable. You started well with a saddle which screams "anthrax", but the sensible mudguards and cranks reveal an excess of middle class chin-stroking. You want something which doesn't look out of a place next to a shopping trolley in a canal. One of these would be £18 well spent https://www.tradeinn.com/bikeinn/en/shun-with-chain-guard-crankset/137534317/p
