The venn diagram between mid day middle age swimmers and privileged cunts who’ve never been punched in the face for being a cunt is probably very large.

Since this is the Tri thread the usual tactic is to just use them for mass start swim-biff training.
(In reality I've had better outcomes by explaining things to the lifeguard and seeing if they can get them to move.)

My sister (a national level junior swimmer in her time) has been known to overtake particularly annoying slowpokes in the fast lane by fly-kicking underneath them on her back.

Violently splashy flip turns next to somebody who you want off the lane works well.

The problem here is despite having ideas of grandeur. I’m not that fast.
@RabiCycle sounds like my usual turn.
Although I’ve stopped tumble turns, my races are all open water and getting a kick every 25m seems like wasted meters i ever see in the sea.

I did my 2nd swim of the year today, 1250m of breaststroke, 2.05 for every 100m.
3.30 is incredibly slow.
What's the forum approved method of dealing with slowpokes?

The frozen sausages equivalent is one or more of:
- Swim past them and accidentally rip their goggles off with a well aimed catch/pull
- Swim over them, especially coming up to a turn
- Swim into them repeatedly and either say nothing or a very nonchalant "oh hai"
- Stopping in front of them mid length
- Do intervals overtaking them at breakneck speed and then cutting in front and swimming even slower than they are going
- etc
- Swim past them and accidentally rip their goggles off with a well aimed catch/pull

There isn’t really any solution to slow swimmers in public sessions, in some ways the really slow ones are easier as you can just swim round them. Club sessions or getting a group together and getting the pool to give you your own lane are the best bet.
1st swim back since broken wrist yesterday, it’s a bit achey this morning and technique was horrible, but one has to start somewhere.

I run into this all the time. Fast lane, ok, fast is relative. 20 minutes ago my 2:10 100's were the fastest in the pool with all lanes having 2 people faffing about in them, except the fast lane which was empty.
On the bright side, it usually takes me no more than 50 metres to know my place and switch lanes when the faster ones show up :)
But also talking with people usually works. If there's a leisure swimmer doing 3:30s in the medium lanes where 2 of us would be working faster, theres nothing wrong just tapping them and asking them to switch lanes.

I had three lanes to myself last night. Problem solved.
Also swam at a really delight 2:00/100 for 1200 last night, almost enjoyed it.
That’s the aim race pace, fast enough but leaves plenty in the tank for the things I’m actually good at. Transitions.

Any advice for tri with 10-12 C cold water? I did a test swim last sunday and nearly froze my face off (best movie). Cant really change much because race is this saturday. Thinking thick layer of vaseline in the face. terrible idea?

• #2414
You get used to it pretty quickly. Your face will be fine within 5-6 minutes. Double hat.

• #2415
yea thanks i hope you are right!
Just checken in the rules, apparently no race if water below 11C

What was the details? How did it go for you?
Are those velosambas?!
-
• #2418
yes velosambas😂
This was a sprint tri at dorney lake. first ever triatholon for me and the preparation was pretty much limited to taking the bell off the bike. Overall time of 1:17 which i'm happy with!Hardest thing was getting up at 5 and putting socks on wet feet. (next time: no socks)
Want to do a longer one! Maybe Standard in Bournemouth?
-
• #2419
Yeah small pool towel for the feet, takes 10 seconds but to me feels like it’s worth over a minute, hate any shoes with no socks and when I do it it’s all I think of.
My one of choice. https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/swimming-microfibre-towel-size-s-39-x-55-cm-double-sided-blue-green/_/R-p-341947
Yeah standard seems a good progression, want me to send the Ironman schedule for next year?
-
• #2420
Ironman with a steel frame? I think there is some logic to that!
-
• #2421
Did you fold your socks over/ roll them down so they go on easier? And choose your easiest to put on socks

Pop goes the weasel/achilles.
Wonder how fast a 10km you can run off zero running. Find out this summer I guess
-
• #2423
I didnt do that but will next time, good idea!

The Bournemouth International?
I believe a lot of the bike route uses the A338. Now I've time trialled on many 70mph dual carriageways over the last decade, but there's no chance I'd ride that road, especially with a large number of adrenaline fuelled, oxygen-deprived triathletes around me.

ah yea that does sound nasty...
Can you recommend a better one in the south with a swim in the ocean?
Why does swimming make people so unaware? I feel like I get crazy swim rage but then I think how can people really be so stupid? Every time I swim inside I feel like there's another example of someone being blissfully unaware of how annoying they're being. It doesn't help that all the lifeguards at our pool are teenagers who won't interact or step in until it's literally life threatening.
