  • Listened to a good podcast about it on Tortoise media, last week I think. But to massively over simplify, they merged with McDonnell Douglas in the late 90, who had a very different company culture. The culture was all about cutting costs and making senior people rich quick. Cue shortcuts and revamping existing aeroplanes into new models rather than building new ones. This caused big issues. And then the aviation authorities in the US somehow allowed them to start certifying their own planes. The whole story is mad and well worth a listen.
