One thing I'm kicking myself about though is the loft staircase; at the time, I didn't think we could afford a bespoke/fancy staircase so just got the builder to match the existing stairs.
Turns out that the actual staircase manufacturer is round the corner from my work, and after chatting to them it became apparent that they can make basically any design from any timber stock for not prohibitively more cost than basic-bitch level.
Gonna take a while to get over the fact that we could have had the open-stringer Douglas Fir staircase of our dreams after all...
