Looks great. Always a fan of the coloured see-through cases.

What's people's thoughts on oled steamdeck vs switch? I'm away for a month a couple months and will probably be stuck in my hotel room a lot.

At this stage in the game a steamdeck seems more flexible if you already have a solid library?
-
• #29305
They transferable with xbox games?
-
• #29306
only Steam library
-
• #29307
Different games innit. I'd go with the steam deck if want to play stuff other than mario

• #29308
Don't have a steamdeck, but the Switch is wonderful, even if only for the 2x Zelda games. Also Red Dead Redemption (1).

There's a fair size/weight difference too right? But yeah, I wouldn't say they're too comparable in terms of library. If there are some Nintendo exclusives you're after, the choice is obvious. If there aren't, and you don't mind the size/price differences, seems like the Steamdeck is the obvious choice.
For me, I bought a Switch purely for BOTW, and it was damn worth it. I also went for the Lite as the regular Switch seemed a bit bulky for me (I was coming from PSPs & PS Vitas), so a Steamdeck would be a proper chonk by those standards.

Yeah, I mean fwiw I love our Switch - botw and totk are extraordinary, rdr1, kcd, witcher, skyrim as well as the mario stuff. There's tons of great options. But it's pretty long in the tooth with the next gen likely coming between Sept and March.

anyone remembers VAGRANT STORY? is there something along those lines now? it was an amazing game!
anyone emulated it on android?
thx -

If you are predominantly going to be playing somewhere where you have access to power, IMO steamdeck and it's not even close.
I have both, and the main downside of the steamdeck for big games is battery life IMO, but I have a battery pack that attaches to the back of the deck for travel that doubles battery life. The only games you can't play on the deck vs. the switch are the nintendo exclusives, so if those are important to you then yeah the switch is good, but if not then easily steam deck is better.

The fallout 4 Series X update is downloadedable now for anyone interested!

Wonder if Beth have shot themselves in the foot with the timing of this update - massive surge of new players from the TV show who now have a broken game on PC if they have any mods installed reliant on F4SE… Which given the game hasn’t had significant updates for a decade is almost anyone. (But maybe not the new players)

Switch owners with (small) kids. How do they get on with the controllers?
-
• #29316
How small?

A small 7

I'll go and wake them to check...

Be upset if you didn't.
Ours was doing light dabbling earlier than that and was a bit slow to get the hang of it which led to some frustrations but probably age and neurospice as much as anything. Also has a mild difference in left hand which leads to some novel interpretations of grip. Is now a 7.5 brute and fine. I would say that I personally find the Switch Pro Controller easier than the built in joy con things (either in paddley mode or stuck on the controller holder thing: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/5316751)

Mine has been using my Lite since she was 5/6. Not sure what the controller sizing is like relative to those, but the controls have never been an issue here.
If I knew my kid would be using it so much, I'd have went for the full-fat Switch, so the external controllers were a better option. As one of the sticks is now a bit all over the place in terms of response. Incredibly frustrating playing some Zelda and Link just decides to stop running for a sec to get absolutely obliterated.

Don’t know the proportion of gamers who install mods vs those who haven’t.
Doubt the casual single play through crowd would.I’ve loaded it up, enjoying playing at 3840x1600 resolution!

Cheers @CYOA & @mmccarthy - If it goes wrong, I'll give them your numbers.
@Acliff - 70,% of FO4 players on steam have no achievements, which means they use mods.
I already play at 5120x1440 - the update can wait until the mods catch up.
(Weirdly, I've been playing it a lot this year, before the TV series came out.)

Bleugh, I was up working til 2 or 3 because I'm incapable of getting my act together. Tried to download Manor Lords at the stroke of midnight. Doesn't unlock until 6am pacific, 2 pm here. Got a whole morning to kill.

Same boat here. I'm actually working right now, not what i had planned
-

I didn't know that there was a mod/workaround already.
Should have looked harder!I had been playing on windowed mode on a incorrect resolution.
It will definitely be buggy, but hopefully the early access will have highlighted the majority of them. The dev released a statement about expectations Vs reality, basically saying it's not a direct competitor to Total War nor an RPG.
