Happy record store day weirdos. Anyone doing something special today? I’ll probably begin drink whiskey soon until I start shouting at customers. Might even even get some fucking ballons.

Just got back from local store. Got there at 7.20 for 8am opening and was probably 100 people in front of me.
Got all three pieces I wanted:
Alborosie - Dub Pirate
Sizzla - Kalonji
BDP - Poetry 7"Took me about 2 hrs in total and was fucking freezing cold. Probably wouldn't have bothered normally but really wanted the Alborosie album and I am sure it will sell out before the online sales go live.

Popped into my local joint, didn't touch the RSD stuff but did come away with cheap-ish OG copies of Kraftwerk's Autobahn and The Ramones Leave Home. Had to take the Ramones back, a weird warp in the run-in groove that skipped, very disappointed, it was a nice copy.

Lucked out and picked up 3 of the 4 on my wish list. Got there 6am and was number 46 in the queue. One bloke turned up at 2:15am and his records wasn't even that limited so he was way too keen, haha.
Fleetwood Mac Rumours (picture disc)
Lost in Translation soundtrack
Sia Colour the small oneAlso wanted The Hu live at Glastonbury but they weren't sure they had it, will go back.

Popped down to my local an hour after opening and managed to get a copy of The Aggrovators and one of the jazz records I wanted.
All felt quite rushed so will have a browse online for a bit when the dregs get released, still quite enjoyable though.

Can someone please explain record store day to me?
I’m not being a dick. -

It started as an effort to drive traffic to small bricks and mortar record shops.

Might not be your market in here, they're a good deck but also quite entry level.
I sold one a few years ago and I had a few people that wanted to buy it.

Absolute dredge. But love this!
Picked up ELO best of for £8, vangelis best of for £1.45, a glen cambell album of covers for 99p, and a lovely bit of Demis Roussos for 99p as well.
Had the Vangelis on this morning, oh boy it delivers!

Just spent a few days in NYC and obviously had to do some digging. Found a couple of ace records shops in the East Village with crates of cool jazz and hip-hop stuff.

I love digging through record shops in NYC - and even more so the random street sellers one sometimes encounters. I've been doing it for 30+ years whenever I've visited and it's been a major influence on my what my collection contains :)

Couldn't care less about the actual RSD releases but the shops and pubs round here use the day as an excuse for a a party and a piss up, so there's that

Black Byrd is a great album, haven't listened to it for years. Might have to get it out and give it a spin.

Was dead pleased with that one - an original 1973 Blue Note for $15.

One of many recent purchases. Love the sample used on this. Reminds me of the sample used in Bomb The Bass - Megablast which is an absolute banger.

Does anyone have any recommendations for vinyl cleaning. I've brought a load of records back from my dad's and he's treated then with care, they're all in sleeves, have relevant clippings from the NME, been handled on the edge, but he's never owned a dust brush, and I've tried dusting them, wet cleaning with a magic sponge, wet cleaning with a microfiber cloth, playing through wet... And there just is tons of crap gathering on the stylus, I'm lucky to get through one track before any skipping?

I've had a project VC-S for a few years. They don't last that well but are cheap by record cleaner standards. It's a noisy boring job but you can make some cleaning solution and see if you can get the records clean. I've done a lot of new records and quite a few used ones with varying levels of success.
I like clean records but don't like cleaning them! You might want to get some anti-static inners as well, you won't want to put your clean record back into the dirty sleeve without a liner.
One I've had recommended is the Nessie RCM but it's expensive.

What solution do you use? (Not tap water hopefully).
I've found that sometimes one wet clean is not enough.
My weapon of choice was a painting pad (Monarch branded) that Homebase used to stock.
Its soft, flexible bristles go deep in each groove and don't cause any damage to the record.I also used to get a fair bit of fluff picked up by the stylus after wiping the record with a thick fluffy microfiber cloth. Maybe great for cleaning windows or buffing your car. But not great on vinyl.
What you want is a large (ideally 10-12" long) thin microfiber, similar to what opticians give you with your new specs.I can add some links later if you need.

For singles I'd use plain old-fashioned soap, a finger and lots of water, not so easy for LPs. Have you got a second hand record shop near you? They might do you a bulk deal on cleaning.
An old mate of mine used to do the Saturday shift at Intoxica Records back in the day, he wouldn't shut up so when Nick, the owner, got fed up with his chat he'd stick him in the back cleaning records on the machine. Never failed to raise a chuckle.
It's running in terminal from my laptop at home. I'll set it up on my work computer which runs 24/7 more or less. The dev replied about the error message, which is important apparently so he's given me a link for instructions on how to fix it. Got a couple alerts so far
