Do you have any contact details for him pls?
Not directly but I know he operated https://www.bromptonhaus.com before, so try there. No idea why emails to thebromptonman site aren’t answered, bit of a shame no?

Less than 1-2mm play open and no play closed and clamp snug is fine, wet lube the shit out of it and open/close aprox 382 times.

I don't use a Brompton saddle so these don't work for me. BNIB. £20? Based in SE15.

Folks IYHO do you think a Ti seatpost would make much difference on my b75? Or probably a waste of money seeing as I live in a ground floor flat…. Or am I just wanting to update my bike as I’m bored, ( I guess this is both a practical and psychological question)

@hjh
ti always makes a difference. got one for my bike, and never looked back. Question you need to ask yourself is how far down the ti/weight weenie rabbit hole do you want to go? And why?
I replaced seatpost, saddle, pedals, handlebar, crankset and rear triangle for weight and usage purposes.
It's lighter, but still heavy (relatively) but I'm getting close to the £ a gram region, and I don't have the cash for that, for weight savings which I'm probably not going to be able to tell the difference with. So I'm leaving as is -
• #15112
I'm willing to dig a bit - at least until it gets stupid. It's a bike I ride and carry a fair bit.
I've shaved weight on the usuals though - "superlight" front wheel, folding tyres, pedals, saddle, my custom crankset (MegaEvo 386 BB, Cannondale Si cranks and SRAM chainring). I've also added weight though with light fixtures, mudguard support etc.
Ti Seatpost is defo on my agenda, but I want it to be the exact same length as the standard. Most I've seen are longer.

Super wise words, much appreciated!

Thanks that really useful

most of my weight savings have been offset partially, by dynamo front wheel and the sugino 75 crankset I put on. But as I mentioned I'm not looking to make it as light as possible. Make it lighter, but keep it practical.
When it's not being upgraded, brompton is probably my most used bike, so being able to just use it in any weather, at any time of day is important to me. So it'll always have mudguards and dynamo front wheel/light, and flat removable pedals. Everything else re: lighter this/lighter that doesn't really interest me. Sure I'd like them, but I can't justify the cost outlay for something that's working pretty well currently. And also whenever it starts getting a bit too heavy to carry, I just unfold it and push it. -
• #15116
Yeah that's how my journey has played out, It's more a case of doing practical upgrades where weight savings are often an unintentional bonus, which then get offset by the next, heavier practical upgrade. I think I'm still slightly net weight savings though.

Really good points @cornelius_blackfoot
I feel the same…. I want to get my Brompton all dynamod up, could I ask your advice? -
• #15118
Dynamoad? Dynamood ?
-
• #15119
you can, but plenty of others have done the same.
I asked @sbbohr on here for advice/info, but I've got an SP sv-8 dynamo hub (think I brought it S/hand off here, but even new it's still £80 cheaper than a Son XS,
https://www.starbike.com/en/son-xs-dynamo-hub/?country=GB¤cy=GBP&keep_params&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_qexBhCoARIsAFgBleuIdWl8PVKqSNG-W4g1k1jJpZkROfs2003JibsiRp7oEVgwxq5X-vMaAjnBEALw_wcB#50143
which I really wanted, and am using an old Supernova E2 front light, the versions before this one
https://www.merlincycles.com/supernova-e3-pro-2-dynamo-e-bike-front-light-241784.html?utm_source=PHG&source=PHG&utm_medium=Affiliates&utm_campaign=genieshopping
and this rear light
https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/lighting/schmidt-rear-light-rack-mount-50mm-black-clear/
built the front wheel myself, had my LBS do the truing. Had lights and cables sorted when LBS replaced my rear triangle.
Only issue with getting a Supernova front is that you have to use it with a supernova rear, so you get a standlight I think.
If I didn't already have a supernova I'd have gone with a son edelux,
https://www.condorcycles.com/products/schmidt-edelux-ii-high-power-led-headlight?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw_qexBhCoARIsAFgBleuX26lGKVAnQedNd1o2LhH5RGQeULCgHZ7XJSb9aXKVC5VhpWowYJsaAiSbEALw_wcB&siteid=1630430&source=webgains&variant=37796597694614&wgc=1630430&wgp=281345
because they look lovely, and are small enough to fit under the luggage block.
All of those options are slightly pricey, but you could do an IQ-X or IQ-XS as a front and any B&M rear light, and they'd work just as well. -

In terms of bang for your buck, get the best suspension block that suits how you use it.
I know this changes your ride for the better significantly. The seatpost is nice but a) more expensive and b) combined with the better block you'll probably appreciate it even more. If you don't have to carry it much, then use your ride requirements to determine enhancements.
I have both, the block made the biggest impact to me, then a saddle that I liked, then the seatpost. And I would approach it in this order.
-
• #15121
Can I ask, what are the suspension block options and how do they suit the uses? I swapped my standard to firm a while back, as I’m fairly heavy, but I still get a ‘bob’.

• #15122
Thanks so so much dude

• #15123
You are a star always! Thank you
-
• #15124
Ah brilliant, this is SUPER helpful
-
• #15125
I don't think you can do anything about the 'bob'; this is a function of large men on small bikes.
Rather does the block absorb most of the road jitters and make the ride smoother?

Have you already tried dropping some chain oil in the top of the hinge pin? That's the normal fix.
