Why can’t we ensure that cnuts like this never serve the public ever again if a political party lose office after general election

The toxic nature of this party needs to have consequences

  • The point Gove is making is that this tenant friendly law has to be approved by a group of people whose existence depends on screwing over the tenants living on the land their forebears stole a thousand years ago

  • Much justifiable anger directed towards the Tories from contributors re the Rwanda plan. Performative cruelty directed at the most wretched and unfortunate of individuals. I often think that these people who attempt a perilous journey across the Channel after surviving lord knows what in order to arrive in Calais, well maybe they are the kind of people you might want in your country? They have qualities of hope, courage and resilience - the sort of qualities which we admired in ourselves once upon a time. Maybe these are the kind of people whose contribution we need?
As always with the Tory party - they aim low and miss!

    Well said mate 👏👏👏

  • Listen to Dowden's complacent sneer:

  • So much to unpack there

  • These headlines are almost identical to the POS that arrived through my letterbox for the Tory police and crime commissioner candidate in Tonbridge.

  • Funny you mention the type of people who arrive by boat (formerly under lorries). They’ve without exception experienced an incredibly harrowing journey. They’ve often been supported by their home community as the brightest and best hope of getting established somewhere else. I’ve worked on and off with them since little Alan Kurdi was washed up on a beach in 2015. I am constantly amazed at the difference between how they are portrayed and how they are. They’re always eager to work, and to make a difference to the communities they find themselves in.
Right now I’m sitting out a dance at the wedding of a Syrian boy who arrived here as a frightened young lad 8 years ago. I’ve seen how he’s got an education and a career and now is about to start a family.
In addition we have close on 1 million job vacancies and the demand for workers is projected to rise sharply. Why don’t we settle asylum claims quickly, allow people in the asylum system to work while their claims are being validated and return those who are obviously not refugees?

  • A revealing podcast exchange between the former editor of the Sun @davidyelland and top PR man (+ former Murdoch son in law) Matthew Freud about why Keir Starmer should keep his distance from Rupert.

  • The media has a lot to answer for

  • One issue the Tories will have in getting any Rwanda bounce is that this summer will be a clusterfuck for them on small boat arrivals as the French police will be diverting all their resources to the Paris Olympics and any joint working/ extra resources requests will be met with a Non. Even BAU from the gendarmerie may not be possible.
The euros will also have a knock on effect all though will probably be less pronounced.

  • That was on the When It Hits The Fan podcast, I think?

  • And the first suicide in Rwanda (let's not pretend that's not going to happen) is unlikely to play well with the less vicious voters, who for some reason I still choose to believe exist.

Yeh I don't get why this isn't what happens from an economy point of view. We are also heading to growing demographic issues where an ever greater number of elderly are going to need thier pensions, care and health complications paid for by a shrinking workforce. We can either keep putting up taxes up on the young, put taxes incentives on having bigger families or let people who want to come here work. If you're feeling mean you introduce a two tier system where they pay tax but can't access all the benefits. All of Europe is waking up to this and in the future you will see competition for migrants, France and Hungary are already incentizing more children. Good news is climate change will create an ever growing pool of applications.....

  • There’s a few places that do this, but in case it helps anyone with tactical voting - https://stopthetories.vote/

  • Rumours Sunak calls an election on Monday:

  • No time to prepare for an election on monday...

  • Summer election? Maybe their sums say the student vote has to go home for them to do least badly?

Or just staving off a no confidence vote?

  • Brenda from Bristol isn't going to happy.

  • I’m ready, have a pencil to tick with

  • Trying to bury the local election results? Would they still go ahead?

It can't be good optics to launch an election campaign by getting thumped in a different election a couple of days in.
