The La Pavoni is staying! I'm finally getting half decent with it.

Damn, the one time I was the first to get a dibs in and it's a vintage toaster. I'll pass this one!

Would be curious on your experience if you go for it.
I kinda settled on 'maybe it's just for those tea-like, super light roast people' but always that lingering doubt that I'm missing out.
If it helps sway you, resale value is great on them...

I just bought one the other day (zp6 special) Remind me in a week and I'll let you know my thoughts

Coolio. Thanks.
@Ptown - yeah - kinda why I want it. I’ve decided to stop trying to find a ‘good deal’ on coffee and just go the whole hog and buy stuff from really small independent roasters who are buying high quality green coffee and are doing really interesting things ie Sey and Flower Child (both in the US). I am very into tea like coffee - like Tim Wendleboe type stuff - and have struggled to really find anything locally or even in the US more generally. Even light from specialty roasters like Onyx are still a bit more developed than I’m really into.

Thanks all for the advice - I'd thought about the puck being too tight until it cracked, except I'd started coarser and it just came through fast, but from the very start. Will try take a few steps and go from there. Also not seen traces of channels in the pucks, but that's far from scientific...
And yes, it's an automatic machine, a Gaggia Classic 👍

After working my way through two bags of James Gourmet, and a bag of Ozone (previously hasbean subscription), I reduced Ozone to the lowest frequency available, which is one bag every 8 weeks, and then ordered some Square Mile.

Yeah it looks to me like it is because the top rim of the cup is damaged from the drop. The first 3mm or so should be smooth, the threads don't start until a way down the rim. Assuming it is still round, which given it is a solid lump of aluminum or some alloy, I'd just take a metal file to the rim to smooth it off until it fits again rather than bothering with returning to 1zpresso.

Thanks. I can order a replacement cup ... $25 + $30 quid shipping. which feels like a lot for a solution that might not work?
will try filing that top lip down.

Interested to try something different, and based largely on the name, I am trying some James Gasharu Ireme Experimental. Aeropress. Anyone else tried it?

I ordered some at the weekend, along with another bag of the Finca Cascaritas which was lovely and quite different as both v60 and espresso.

Finally ended up buying some timemore scales, thoughts so far are that I like how fast it is compared to the Hario (which was pretty laggy) but I fucking hate the buttons, I never have any confidence anything is gonna happen when I press the anything. Very glad there's a physical toggle switch for the on off.

I’m really enjoying it.

while perfectly drinkable in clever dripper, I have if anything preferred it as a long espresso (topped into a black/white americano) via my sage barista express (which relishes a coffee suited to a higher volume espresso shot).

Thinking of this as an upgrade for my Timemore c2 for filter brews.

Anything else in the running around £100 with a 30g capacity aimed at filter?

Struggling but learning with it. I can only make Aeropress or V60. Have fiddled with quantities but think it is a bit too experimental for me. I will finish the 250 mg bag. It is not a big bang hit, so maybe I should stick with bold sweet entry level stuff. I have some Vargem Grande Estate next, which I also chose like betting on the Grand National, so will see how that goes.

I am by no means an expert but I had a cup of this recently and it was really very good.

Interesting flavour profile…..where did you get that?
-
• #26296
It was in a speciality coffee place called Dabov (shop same name as brand) in Prague last week.
For what it’s worth I only just saw the flavour profile when I posted the pic an hour ago. To my undeveloped palate it tasted nothing like any of those, just nice, nutty coffee.

Nice one. Seems like a Bulgarian roastery

Could have done with knowing about that when I was in Prague last week. While I didn't look all that hard, the coffee I did have there was dreadful Nespresso shite.

Yes in general the coffee was rubbish, even a Costa there tasted decent compared to the local stuff but we found Dabov purely by accident when wandering through the city.
If it’s a La Pavoni I’ll take it 😂
Oh dang I should have refreshed
