I thought they stopped all that physical punishment for transgressive crimes like moutain biking?

They’d probably not either cane or hang me - but they might deport me.

Flat bottomed 36mm socket, where can I get one- Abbey?

Apparently these folks have the leonardi version of the tool.
(I've got one, if push came to shove).

Cheers, I’ll see if I can find one locally and if not order that one.

This is more than I want to spend on a socket

How is the cable clamped at both ends? I want to do this, but all droppers I've come across have the ferrule at the dropper end and the lever end held by a grub screw...but here you need the ferrule at the shifter end...is it a particular dropper that has the cable the other way around or something else?

I know wolf tooth makes a barrel clamp, but i'm curious too to see @Dammit's solution

I just used a barrel nut with a grub screw at the dropper end, and routed the cable through from the lever with the ferrule (?) at that end as the shifter requires.
Tensioned it all up with the housing just poking out of the seat tube and then fed the cable down into the frame as I pushed the seat post in.
I’ll probably shorten the housing at some point in the future- maybe if I send the Lefty off for service - as it’s a bit too long for my liking, but it would need to be tensioned up with the handlebars off the stem and brought much closer to the cable entrance point on the downtube to do that

I used a PNW Rainier dropper, and it came with the barrel clamp (I also ordered spares).

It didn’t come with a cable which I was surprised at, but then maybe their lever comes with that.

Post 74653 in this sequence: it’s a very neat solution and so far I can see no downsides.

Scorchio!

I'd be sure that kind of socket will clear the rebound adjuster gubbins that sits on top of the nut.

I dropped the bike off with CannAsia earlier - used to be the distributor for Cannondale (clue is in the name I guess) but lost it due to "financial reasons", however they still have the tools and the wherewithal to use them, apparently.
They'll call me tomorrow to tell me whether it's a straightforward 100 hour service, or if the lower leg is junk. Exciting!

Mechanic called me- asked if I’d pushed the pads back in on the rear calliper, which I had. Apparently this is the usual cause of the master cylinder leaking, and he doesn’t think it’s an issue, he’s going to bleed the system and reset it. I think this is good news?
He is confident that the fork will be ok but he’s not opened it up yet.

Got the bike back, apparently the fork was fine, but the seals were old and hard.

Took the Slate to the park I usually ride with my trial bike - admittedly scary, but I got round the whole loop

Yes- the (defunct) ratchet is in the bin, so the shift lever just pulls cable when you move it and then returns to a resting position when you release it, just as a dropper lever does
