  • A friend I ride my kids with has an Urban Arrow with the old Active Line motor, 10,000km on it, he easily keeps up with me on a new Cargo Line Load60, with only steep hills making the torque of mine more noticeable.

I don’t think there’s a huge amount of difference in the Bosch motors, they’re all good.

His UA and my Load 60 are also basically the same length, but the UA has about four times as much space as the weight is much higher up and goes over the front wheel.

  • Good to hear, hopefully it all goes through and this thing shows up in the next few days.

  • Would this setup with a rohloff be good? Top 3 gears are way out of useable speed? hi torque warning?

  • Counterpoint :
You get a box made. It works.
Put a pannier rack on the back. It works.

  • yep i agree but soft-men like me cant “make” anything.. sourdough at a stretch

  • Just curious, but why is your preference a chain over a belt?

  • In general I prefer it on all my bikes. On the heavy ass cargo bikes if i do manage to snap one (actually only ever had this on my gravel bike) i can get to somewhere that will either have a chain or at least a new master link easy and fast. Have seen enough poor folks getting towed on a flat bed to not want to be one of them. Also can easy replace myself and throw a new one on after every winter for a few bucks if it needs it. Chains are cheap simple and reliable.

  • putting feelers out for a size M Omnium mini max, hold me in your thoughts.

  • Took the scenic route home today.

  • can someone in Germany buy and send me pls!

  • Im not in Germany sadly. Can also maybe use the picture to get a duplicate made.

  • I'll sort you out. Dropped you a pm

  • I'm looking to buy a Tern GSD for school/commute duties. A round trip will be about 350-400m climbing. With 1.5 kiddos. Is this the right tool for the job? There's one locally that seems well looked after. What are the things to look out for and questions to ask...Edit: I should say that I'm 6'2 and my wife is 5'2

  • I love mine, daily school run with an 11 year old and 6 year old, still going well and we live at the bottom of a biggish hill. Battery life on mine is pretty depleted after 4 years / 7000 miles now so factor that in if the one you're looking at is similar usage!

  • 3000km flat use on this one with recent service and bosch upgrade. Seems genuine. Cafe lock has broken though which is the only catch, are these easily replaceable?

  • Test it with both kids at your height. I’m 6” 5 and decided the seat tube angle was far too slack so the saddle would be in my kids face. I think the first gen GSD has a steeper seat tube angle however, and that pic looks like gen 1 from the motor.

Also worth keeping in mind it will be hard to ride faster than 15mph, past assistance, as that gen motor has an internal reduction gear.

Saying all this, if the price is good I’d go for it, they seem very easy to resell.

  • It looks in better condition than mine! Physically easy to change the lock, just one bolt, might be hard to source though, I ended up getting mine through Tredz as a special order as it needs to be the wider version that they didn't list at the time.

Edit, actually Tredz spent ages trying to list it but gave up in the end. I got it from Bike24 instead but don't think they post the UK anymore thanks to Brexit...

PS. I'm 6' and have no problem with saddle height interfering!

  • That's fine, they're asking 2.8k which makes me queesy, my car was £400....! But searching around seems the right price and I can probably squeeze a bit off.

  • Ace, it's not a deal breaker, but good to know I can fix for selling on.

  • Sounds like a good deal based on the used Tern market

  • when your 0.5 kid is full sized kid, at your saddle height it will be in their face but nothing critical

£2.8k seems okay, see if you can get it lower, first thing you do when you buy is practice taking rear wheel in and out

  • Why's that? The rear wheel practice?
