Spending a bit of time balancing the pistons really helps. Use a flathead behind the pad with more clearance, holding back the pad with less clearance, and pull the lever slightly. You're aiming for both pads to strike simultaneously, and with equal visible clearance. When you get it just right, the rotor "pings" when pads hit. My RX4s don't rub at all.
Thanks, I'll have a look at this as well.

I thought standard Hope rotors were about what Shimano ones are and they then did a thicker one. definitely not thinner than shimano or anyone else.

I've heard this thinner/thicker rotor thing before but aren't hydraulic brakes self adjusting so surely rotor width isn't a factor. The lever throw doesnt change as rotors wear/get thinner.

Nor as pads wear.
I think you can bleed a brake up for Xmm of rotor width though and if you then fit a thicker rotor it'll be rub city right?

very nice

didn't hope advertise the rx4 as better than shimano calipers because the pistons have better retraction and thus less rub? funny
-
• #30483
If you push the pistons all the way back in, you have to pump the lever a few times to get it to connect and then surely the pad spacing is reset to whatever rotor width you now have?
-
• #30484
Hope rotors are normally wider than Shimano/SRAM
not always, the 160mm floating hope rotors are 1.8mm and the bigger fixed hope rotors are 2.3mm

Mmm, it sounds like a nice theory but I’ve found that sometimes the only way to increase the spacing is to open a bleed pooter and let a little fluid out.

There's definitely more throw as pads get thinner, with rotors is the same.
First thing I'd do with rubbing rotors is open port at the lever and carefully push each piston back -

Is this a good or bad time to say I have some rx4 calipers for sale?
They are the fastest stopping drop bar callipers I have ever used and I love them.

I've given up, binned my bike, and gone back to V-brakes.

V brakes are v nice brakes.

I did an MTB ride a few years back near Chestnut Park/Point around the reservoirs which was fun, although I was doing it on a layover so I was fucked; local guy showed me around which helped. I think there's some gravel and MTB on Palau Ubin as well.
The areas you can ride off-road are fairly limited- Chestnut/Rifle Range is one area and it abuts Bukit Timah - they're both within the central nature reserve area. That is linked via the T15 Park Connector to the Mandai military area - which is commonly ridden but is also illegal.
Kent Ridge has the most technical, steepest trails on the main island- which isn't saying a great deal, but they're challenging to ride fast for sure. It's the only place in Singapore I've seen people take actual downhill bikes.
Then you have Tampines quarry - illegal, but very heavily developed by riders with spades. Destined to be flattened and turned into housing in the near-term.
Finally Pulau Ubin, which is again built around an old quarry, and has the longest and fastest descents available in Singapore - and you have to take a bum boat to get there, which is fun.

I do like the colourful Hope brakes but unless I get a set free with a bike, why would I bother?

4 pistons

You brake, you lose.
If you need 4-pistons on a gravel bike you're doing it wrong and for MTBs there's also Shimano.

Monstrous weight. Well, that's why I like the idea of them.
Also, not supporting the torture of fish.

Also, I want to keep my BRITISH GRAVEL BIKE BRITISH.
-
• #30497
It feel's oh so good though. I use the excuse that my lower body mass needs the 2 extra pistons.

I'm normally 90-95kg and on road and gravel tyres traction is always more of an issue than braking power. Oh and I love seeing fish tortured and Brexit means Brexit so being forrun prefer to give my money to non-British companies. :)

Fair enough, around 5kg heavier than Yours Truly. I do a fair bit of cross-training, but eat like a fat mofo. I actually prefer supporting British/local brands, especially the ones I like.

Water retention?
Might be talking out of the top of my hat if @b0n0rv2 is right. I swear I’ve heard that though.
I run RX4+s and Hope rotors on both my bikes and get the odd bit of rub, but nothing major. Expensive to try, but might be a solution.
