  • I need help planning a 5-night trip around North Wales at the end of May. We're starting from Gloucestershire and we'll have a campervan with solar panels, erring towards campsites for showers and electric top-up if we need it. Would like to do lots of walking and my girlfriend has suggested a list of places she would like us to visit if possible:

    • Machynlleth
    • Eryri National Park
    • Nant Gwynant
    • Lake Vrynwy
    • Stopping somewhere in Shropshire on en-route home.

I have never been to Wales before, I don't know what I'm doing.
Any recommendations to add to or replace the above, suggestions on where to go/park-up?
    @pacef8 ?
Attached is the vague direction being planned...

  • Could you go via the Beacons down to Pembroke then up the coast (A487) on the way up? It's a longer drive but stunning and if you've never been to Wales then it'll tick most of the country off.

  • Which are the go to grips for a flat bar with a slight sweep?

  • Ergon GaA3 are pretty good. I like my GP1 grips but my bars have a fair bit of sweep.

  • Oh and they come in colours.
    Nice!

  • Church Stretton is a nice stop off in Shropshire (even more so if you take an MTB) https://churchstretton.co.uk/

I don't think you can go wrong in Wales, generally lovely people and equally incredible countryside.

  • I live around there - I'd recommend the Sam Palmer in Shoreham out of that bunch.

How long are you wanting to walk - I have a bunch of local walks I'm happy to share. If you travel to Knockholt (from London Bridge) then it's oyster.

  • I need to replace some tiles from my bathroom and I am failing miserably at tracking down matching ones. Any suggestions on how to find these tiles in a 225x225 size beyond google image search? Cheers

  • Cheers! Knockholt loses out to stations on the line that runs from my local station (so Shoreham/Eynsford/Swanley) - looking for a ~3 hour walk total, with a pub somewhere in between, and ideally running a>b (rather than a loop). Currently looking at following the Darent Valley Path from Shoreham to Swanley with lunch at the Malt Shovel in Eysnford. Any deviations/improvements/alternatives/must-sees to add to that would be much appreciated!

  • are they definitely 225? and not faux-225 four-in-a-450?
just looking at where the grout has failed and the slight different in grout widths

  • Balls, you could be right and would explain why the cracking has continued in a straight line like that.

I found the 450 tiles ages ago but just assumed that the image was of 4x450mm tiles rather than faux-225 four-in-a-450.

Cheers, wish I'd asked on here a lot earlier!

  • If you want a friendly welcome, go to Kiev wearing an 'I Love Putin' t shirt rather than setting foot in Swanley. I would say avoid it like the plague, but the plague would be preferable.

The pubs in the valley have pretty much all gone over to catering for visitors. For instance, the Samuel Palmer in Shoreham was recently The George, which was a proper boozer, it is still OKish. The nearest thing to a proper pub in Shoreham is The Crown.

I used to live in the valley and still visit most weeks, but now with a fishing rod not a bike.

  • Kyiv

  • If you can stand a day between showers try britstops.com. Free overnight parking in mainly pubs and farm shops for campervan, on the assumption you’ll probably (but are not obligated to) buy dinner or something from them.

  • Was conflicted on which spelling to use, if you wish to split hairs you're talking to the wrong man.

  • Just feels weird now that everyone knows it's not the correct name

  • As decided by Ukraine in 1995, but still used elsewhere since. As 'Kiev' is the Russian version I apologise without reservation.

Doesn't stop Swanley being a shithole.

  • Kyiv is amazing!

Been there for 2 summers in 2017 and 18, people are just lovely!

  • What's going on here? The owner has another car which is plastered with equally strange wording which I hope to capture soon...

  • Probably to stop the gangstalkers, like you.

  • Conspiracy theory 'Freeman of the Land' type nutjob. It's an effort to invoke provisions of domestic US law to try and claim that your car isn't a vehicle and so doesn't need to be registered. Usual combination of poor legal understanding and wishful thinking.

As for what the bricks in the magic squares are all about, fuck only knows!

  • So that's a Romanian-licensed car, presumably in the UK, quoting a US law...

  • Yep. Presumably to avoid having to register it properly in the UK. Or trying to.
