  • Gonna be doing a lot of wood cutting soon, any recommendations for a track saw? Was going to buy a milwaukee as I have all the batteries and stuff but festool seems to be a better option apparently.

  • I've watched a few YouTube videos so I know what I'm talking about.....

But seriously, I've even seen a few festool fanbois saying that if they were buying a tracksaw again, they wouldn't necessarily go for festool. They still reckon it's the best but not worth the premium. With a bit of set up, even the budget saws are able to get good, repeatable cuts. I have a Titan, and once I worked out the way to remove play in the track (that's one thing the festool does out of the box, apparently), it has been great. Biggest difference I found was just using the right blade for the cut. Low tooth count for just making one piece of wood into two pieces of wood, high count (I have an 80 tooth blade) for anything that needs to be nice. The saw marks are barely visible on a careful 80t cut.

Tl;Dr, I would go Milwaukee. I'd love a cordless saw track saw.

  • Mafell for the brags? Whatever you can find for the wins.

Do you need battery? Cordless has uses but corded if diying in the garden, just works without the concern of losing power mid cut

  • Again from watching YouTube, one thing I'd double check before any purchase is track cross compatibility. My understanding is that you can use lots of saws from brand x, with brand y's tracks, but some have fittings that prevent this.

Worth looking at just in case Milwaukee's long or replacement tracks have especially egregious pricing.

Otherwise if you're not price constrayed I'd go with what you have batteries for.
