@Dammit if your occasional car is going to spend most of its time in France, For goodness sakes get a French one. French towns pretty much all service Renault, Citroën and Peugeot. If you have anything else, you'd better live in a big city.
The C5 Tourer is fantastic. The Peugeot 508 estate similarly good. Big Renaults are still shit though.
The proliferation of expertise in them makes them all more reliable than anything else too, and super-easy to sell when you need to.
