Once you have the bearings out, take them and the seals to a specialist bearing supplier. Should be able to get replacement bearings and seals cheaper than going to Honda.

(not an attack) I find it quite amusing that £75 for a cosmetic change is reasonable, but £50 to have a safe, free rolling wheel is outrageous.

thank I'll have a dig around, unfortunately most forums seem to have moved over to Facebook

good idea, simplybearings distribution warehouse/office is a few miles away so ill try there
-
• #25331
not sure I was outraged, just surprised at the cost compared to the front wheel bearings so asked the question as its not something I have experience of. I'll replace them as suggested
-
• #25332
Fair, TBH I've never had to see how much it would cost to replace either, but knowing Triumph, it will be eye watering.

A good reference for anyone looking for parts.
Use this site below, it's normally all listed on there.

thanks. just checked and the needle bearing is £105! I think I'll leave them black for now and maybe do them over winter

definitely !

Use Fowlers for the part numbers then elsewhere for the item. If you can get the measurements then a local bearing shop could help.

There are a few manufacturer specific bearings on the honda, same as other bike manufacturers so finding someone that has hit the minimum order or dodgy supplier.

Vfrworld and vfrdiscussion were a great source of info
This is what I remember being helpful. https://www.vsource.org/VFR-RVF_files/BBearings.htm
Google helped me back then and again now.

makes sense, thanks

That's great, really useful. I'm tempted again to do it

Every spring I think I'll sell it, then the sun comes out, the winter cover comes off, and the single cylinder love comes back.

Just ride the fucker, you can't see the colour of the wheels.

Is that sex?
EDIT that was supposed to be SRX and autocorrected.
-
• #25345
You asking that in this thread?
EDIT Autocorrect was right. Everything is sex.

• #25346
its a good point but like my bikes I do like to 'fettle' its part of the enjoyment
-
• #25347
my vfr clutch biting point is right at the end of the lever release. Never had it on a bike before, is this a sign of the clutch being worn out? or needs bleeding or adjusting? Its not slipping
-
• #25348
Common issue on those bikes I believe. I’ve read that a few people found that they had a blocked return on the master cylinder and cleaning that small hole out allows fluid to circulate, releases some pressure on the clutch and brings the bite point back down.

Auto correct of srx.
Always had a soft spot szr660

thanks I'll have a check
Have you looked on the vfr forums that list all the bearing numbers and suppliers.
Might be worthwhile to look at the condition of the swing arm bearings and check the seals and maybe bit of marine grease in there
