I work with the Urban Arrow XLs. Absolutely amazing bikes, completely bombproof, even compared to the Bullitts I used to work with. Fucking massive though.

I seem to have just ordered a 2021 floor mode with 3km is the enviolo that awful?
-
• #13654
Funny enough we also have a bullitt! This is a family not the xl. Do you use the enviolo or rohloff? Is a performance line setup going to be super disappointing?
-

We use the Rohloff. Never used an Enviolo to compare I'm afraid! I've not read good things in here though. What are you planning on using it for?
For what it's worth, I'd own a Bullitt over a UA XL, the Urban Arrow is probably overkill for most stuff and importantly, the Bullitt is cooler. -

Kid hauling, wife hauling, dog hauling. I really dont need it (this will make 6 cargo bikes and 2 cycle trucks in the garage) but we are trying to condense, goal was to get to 3 cargo bikes. This would let us get to 2.
Its a bike store floor model close out, will cost a fair bit less than an analog bullitt bare frame set. Was just too cheap to pass on. And they will ship it cross country for free.
I have a Full Rohloff setup in the bin, only concern is its a qr hub with 32 spoke

I love the UA XL, Such awesome beasts!
I think enviolo has improved things of late? But I don’t know never tried. I had an absolutely abysmal experience with them a few years ago. I think the UA is just too big and heavy for (old) enviolo, if there are not many hills around you and you give yourself a high GI / ratio then you’ll prob be ok. . What motor is it?
With Rohloff though they are amazing.
Edit - oh sorry there is more comments since I wrote this

32 spoke Rohloff is fine.
Qr is ok IF the UA had vertical dropouts. Dont think it’ll work with the horizontal drops. Maybe with a surly QR tugg nut on both sides.
Performance line is ok and will make your enviolo last longer :-)

Its a 2021 but new, so performance line. Enviolo tr (trekking?) chain not belt (my preference anyway) re Rohloff it has the newer rocker dropouts so should be compatible and not the stupid automatic shifting so should be convertable

Rode a top-spec Urban Arrow L with box on the delivery round the other day. So fucking heavy. full fat Cargo Line motor and electric Enviolo, absolutely would not go up steeper hills. Get the Rohloff on and gear it appropriately

I agree but NOTHING matches a Bafang 😂

Currently have a speedbox 3.0 cargo line enviolo HD bike, it flies but I think its down to the bike rather than motor etc.
I test rode a UA recently, it 'feels' heavy to ride but one of the best (if not the best) for kid hauling

So i should convert it to bafang then? I have a brand new m350 500e 8O nm around lol
-
• #13664
I had a bafang bullitt and was mainly used to carry one child, since then have had a rohloff GSD and now a Load 60, nothing matches the power, torque and range of Bafang
-
• #13665
My Bullitt enjoyment has increased immeasurably since that bloody Bafang broke and we replaced it with an eZee front hub and torque sensing BB ;)
-
• #13666
I'd be up for trying those proper Bafang mid drive units though
-
• #13667
ah yeah I meant any aftermarket kits, bafang is my word for it
-
• #13668
Yeah, have a few bafang bikes and they do rip. I was actually trying to convince my wife we should buy this gen 1 analog urban arrow to convert to bafang/rohloff as we have all the parts kicking around. When trying to find the add found this one for 200€ cheaper and they will ship plus its from a shop so likely still warranty and all the good things

The new m series motors are supposed to be a big improvement. I bought 2 to play with, one for a minivelo project and one to convert my long tail frim front motor. Will have to see if i even keep the longtail now

Yeah I’ve tried and tested 32h Rohloff on the XL bikes for work and np. And the dude from Rohloff (Stewart..?) seems to think QR will be fine with these dropouts but i haven’t tested- don’t see why it wouldn’t be.

Cool now im just crossing my fingers till it shows up at the shop that they don’t figure out they over discounted this thing lol (in all seriousness they seem to be no longer selling UA so its kind of a logical but insane price)

This UA is maybe the same vintage as mine, Enviolo, Performance, chain drive. Enviolo Hubs get a bad rep here but what can I say, it shifts and hasn’t let me down yet. I’d love to have a go on one of the new ones with a cargo line motor to feel the difference. That said I got up Forest Hill with 80kg of horse manure and didn’t die.
If I were you I’d consider what the overlaps are with the other cargo bikes in the stable. Bullets are nice but if you’re carrying kids the UAs feel very solid and safe due to the hefty weight and eps box, the rain cover is good, you can clip in a child seat etc. the whole usability package.

Basically we have 1 3yo but a few times a month need to haul 3 kids. More often being able to put wife and kid in one bike makes the logistics of going into town much easier. I bought a cheap babboe big for this but its not ideal. The bullitt is my wife’s daily and is heavily customized to really only work well to haul the one kid. 2 of the cargo bikes are straight up surplus and for sale (nihola and another longjohn) this could maybe replace longtail and babboe. So we end up with just ua and bullitt.

IME bullitt is terrible to haul kids
its light, its cool but their accessories to carry kids are shit

Its not ideal but wife likes it and it turned her into a cyclist so it works. But as our school run is 500m anything is fine.
I have one, ask me anything. It is indeed a huge beast but its super fun to ride, and you can stick several bags of compost and a Maxicosi baby seat in at the same time.
