  • I think I have a winner but it is super golf club, so I’ll put it in there if/when.

  • My guesses:

    RR Sport
    Jaguar XF estate

  • Jaguar XF estate

I thought that too, but surely not large enough.

  • Or maybe there has been a compromise, and he's relinquished the need for both mtbs, and not removing wheels or seatposts.

  • Nope, and the XF is too small.

  • Which reminds me to look at Bike Flights pricing.

  • Hah, Bike Flights is $2,500 per bike, looks like they’re coming on the plane with me.

  • Is an m5 touring much larger?

  • It’s around E Class size - just a little smaller I think, but they’re old cars now and whilst I’d be happy taking one that I had had a chance to service I’d not want to commit to a big trip with one that I was unfamiliar with.

  • Hmmm....

I just had a thought that I was 100% sure of. But sounds like not.

  • Nope

  • Engine-swapped hearse?

  • In a serious note, why not just build a retro mod thing of a car you like the shape of?

  • I picked up a Clio 172 Cup today. Whilst a little rough around the edges it has good bones - minimal rust and no accident damage. I fancied another 182, but the Cup feels a little more special, and should be a little easier to work on.

For those that don't know, the cup was a slightly stripped back version, with no abs, aircon, leather, xenons, washer jets, auto window wipers, but with thinner glass, a wider track and some small visual changes. Apparently around 89kg lighter than a non cup. Woo.

I need to do the major engine service of Cam & Aux belt, as well as give it a proper clean, and paint the wheels silver.

Has anyone has good results painting their own wheels? thinking in terms of longevity. Otherwise, who knows of a cheap powder coating service near east London?

  • No experience, but from watching lots of youtube videos of motorbike wheels being painted I think the challenge you'll have it's a pretty big diy job. Especially as it's not a touch-up, it's a full colour change.

For a start there are four of them, and they're not small. Having tried to clean a dirty wheel when it was off before getting tyres replaced it's actually a pretty serious job to get it squeeky clean, let alone fully contaminate free.

I think you can potentially get away without removing the tyres using the playing cards trick:

I guess it depends what sort of level of finish you're after.

Looks great BTW. I've always loved the idea of one of these as a runaround.

  • Yay and congrats.

Are the wheel kurbed or damaged?

Modern wheel paint is not as tough as it was. Any chips or marks on the wheels? They would need to filled and level.

  • does carvertical give you decent information on imported cars? potentially going to look at one which has extensive service papers but they’re all in japanese and it’s a private seller :/ interested in whether there are better (cheaper) alternatives for checking details on car

  • Great pick up!

These guys near me do refurbs. South of the river though. https://www.madhousetyres.co.uk/

  • Google translate works

  • Nice, I bought one new in 2002…1st big purchase my now wife and I made together.

She was later banned for doing 121 in it on the A1..3 months before our honeymoon. Typical as our honeymoon was largely travelling the west coast of the US…I had to do all of the driving . Pretty much nothing has changed…

  • Since you mentioned golf club, it's gotta be something with pseudo cred. Like a Rangie sport or something. But also anonymous enough not to be targeted on the street... Tricky!

  • Maserati something-or-other with seats folded down then?
