  • Hello Humanoids,

Here’s my 2013 Pacer (54cm) built up as a ‘fast’ road bike with 32c Ultradynamico tyres, a Whisky carbon fork, 11sp downtube friction shifters and Kinlin/Bitex wheels.

Frame purchased off the forum last year, I’ve enjoyed putting it together over winter. 8.7kgs!

  • nice build! how do you find those tires?

  • Also curious to know this. Toying with some RH Limited Edition black endurance ones, but would these be better? 🤔

  • Oh my. Superb build!

  • Love this build, bravo!

I’m working on something similar friction shifter Mr Pink

  • Excellent build. Looks like a classic bike.

  • Thank you for the kind words folks!

If you can look past the cost (£70 each), first impressions are positive re the tyres, though I’m only 30kms in to a ride with them this morning so a bit too early to tell.

They have zero sidewall protection mind, so I guess that makes them more vulnerable than the Endurance RHs Pete. 50psi is supremely comfortable and they measure up at 32.5c actual on 19mm internal width Kinlin rims with Pirelli TPU tubes.

  • Not the best comparison but I've had extra lite bon jons (700x35) before and am riding Jff cavas (650x48) at the moment. The former rode nicer, the latter actually work tubeless. I wouldn't rush to buy either again.

  • Simpler times

  • What’s the clearance like on the Whisky fork? Space for 35mm ?

  • Definitely space for 35c. You could probably go a bit fatter if the caliper brake can take it.

  • Thanks both. Had mixed results with RHs previously, but never tried Ultradynamicos. Not sure I’m quite cool enough to pull them off.

Will continue to ponder and inevitably end up making the wrong decision.

Lovely bike. The white paint job has simultaneously managed to make me miss my MS and wish Surly made a disc brake Pacer.

  • Quite funny how the surly thread went from bikes like this to hipster brand tyre talk

  • Yep, had a 700 x 50 GK in there but run a 43 gk now

  • All bikes are good bikes.

  • Oh lord, that’s a new saved search on eBay then.

  • Definitely

  • Cross check built up a few months ago. Anyone know of any otp frame bags/half frame bags that fit a cross check? Just curious. I have a super nice front bag but I need to get a pannier to stick on first.

  • I am likely to be flat bar-Ing my surly soon. Is that the ritchey Kyote?

  • Yep that's the one.
I really like them. I cut them a bit shorter. I like being able to stretch out a bit and ride in the loopy parts.

  • I currently have all the rest of the ritchey finishing kit so these bars would make sense.

  • This bike deserves all the love it can get. Now get it muddy!!!

  • Ayyy thanks my friend! The repost by Ultradynamico was cool I have to admit. Planning a 50km road ride for the weekend.

  • Seeing sights on an extended commute home yesterday.
