  • I have ended up using the Brompton more than any other bike, slightly saddening but so it goes, picnic ride in Brighton, it’s just such a pack horse

  • Joined the Brompton owner’s club today.

Need longer post + lower and wider bars so it actually ‘fits’, then time to enter the rabbit hole of upgrades/mods.

  • I have a genuine Brompton extended seatpost in silver that came with my bike I'd be willing to swap... as I'm only 5'8 and don't need an extended one.

  • Only it’s a bicycle, and not in Jamaica ( or the 1970’s)

  • I’d like the frame gold, but too much $¥€

  • But that’s all surface, it rides great and is v useful

  • Also I can’t find a good link but can anyone suggest a good back mudguard flap for a Brom with the guards I have ? Just in case you know

  • @amey 's endorsement is worth 10x anyone else's comments. Full packhorse is very impressive.

In terms of mudguard flap, why not just fashion an extension using an old 'ass saver' and couple of cable ties? I'm sure they might have an appropriate colour/design that works.
Others on here have used rubber/plastic/car mats cut to size.

  • Super nice that !

  • Upgrade the levers, swap the shifter to a SA sls30

  • Thank you for the offer but I’m just going to order extended then mod this one into telescoping so can throw seat in my bag if ever needed.

  • Ah great thinking
Thanks, if anyone has any pictures of this kind of thing I would love to see?

  • Would you have a link to the best place, ones that would work? Are they just more sturdy? Less plasticky? Thanks in advance!
Do you mean like this :

  • Credit to @tjn who has done it with an old car seat.
Pics attached - as you can see very straightforward.
I've only done it on the front and it protects the bottom bracket region in the rain.
I've not needed to add it to the rear

I am sure GCN did a video where they created a extended mud-flap using the same idea. I just can't find it.

  • @sbbohr - is there anything else that won’t have been done at when built at factory or is worth doing/checking?

  • Hey thanks so much

  • Well… everything ha..

  • Chainring bolts and the alignment of the pads relation to the brake track are worth a check. Only the latter needed fixing on mine - I have the same version.

I think the first thing I changed was the drive side pedal.

I have Joseph Kuosac mid rise bars. Best thing about them is that you get room for your hands on normal sized grips. Due to the fold there is a limit to how wide you can go.

Congrats by the way. Wouldn’t willingly be without a Brompton now.

  • The inside leg of the fork looks like this on the brompton I've just acquired. Firey death or probably ok? I'm not familiar with the wall thickness of the forks.

Edit: local framebuilder offered to remove paint, inspect, and repaint if they're in usable condition. If not I'll pick up some new replacements.

I like the mudguards (pink more than red).

I've got the SLS30, Baker Street Bikes have them / can order them (I spend too much time in that playground).

  • Rollerblade wheels to replace the two on a non-rack Brompton: are these the go-to, or is there a better forum-approved alternative? https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/kids-63mm-82a-inline-skating-wheels-with-bearings-for-play-3-4-pack/_/R-p-303648

  • they could hit your heels but worth a try!
