How about these as you've already got a lovely rectangular watch? After me saying this morning don't get into watches they're worse than bikes 😬

VC Patrimony is quite a lovely looking thing

Disagree… The distorted typography on the retrograde pointer date is appalling. The standard time only one is too big IMO. And like a lot of VC stuff I don't see where the value is, apart from the name. A Saxonia Thin is much nicer IMHO

Sure, but tell us what you really think...

If you can’t have weirdly specific pet hates in the watch thread, where can you

Gotta agree, that's a mess

Oh shit that's really bad.

Do grandfather clocks belong in this thread?

Of course!
Especially if you won it at Martinsville.**Niche NASCAR reference

The new Supermarine looks like a Vertex
Shades of a Black Bay perhaps? The new Bremont ceo was responsible for the Black Bay when he was at Tudor

I like it, I have a 1950's patrimony and find it on the small side.

That is pretty nasty. It’s the numbers here that I’m talking about though. They’re also weirdly oversized for the rest of the dial, but I assume that’s an old person thing.

Annoying it’s arranged like a speedometer

Watch size is very much preference. I just find it looks too big for the specific style (see pic). I don’t like the 40mm Patek Calatrava either. But that is just my opinion/preference.

I mean, if you’re going to do a pointer date it’s a good way to do it to be able to make the numbers big enough (although they still only show every other number). And retrograde indications (ie, the hand snaps back to the left side when it reaches the end) are a nice party piece, if a bit old fashioned. They just ballsed up the execution.

I absolutely cannot function without a date window but I question the practicality of a pointer, the legibility is compromised even at a large size and it clutters so much of the face .. I guess there’s some excitement seeing it sweep back for the 1st of the month.
As for having a year window on a watch (previous page) .. No practical value surely , just showing off?

On a perpetual calendar you need at least a leap year indicator so you know that it will trigger the 29th February in the correct years. A year indicator is a nice one-up to that.
Perpetual calendars absolutely are about showing off.

I don’t mind the pointer date when in combination with a chrono or a moonphase, here it seems lost, the scale is just floating on the top half of the dial. To me the Oris Big Crown pointer would be an example to follow. Or shrink it down and add a complication. The day pointer aspect was far far worse.

Speaking of perpetual calendars, and watches that are too large, I actually quite like the new Portugieser QPs. The dial text (in Helvetica) is acceptable, certainly much better done than JLC or Vacheron.

Yeah, there’s clearly just no one working at VC that understands proportion, or composition, or elegance, etc

Loool
Shame as their overseas was a home run if a bit ‘Canary Wharf’

The ‘12’ markers chopped off totally ruins the quality of the details.
Surely the could do double line or dots.
In fact it’s a shame the numbers are there in the first place. Markers would suit such a busy dial better.
Whilst we're talking about Guilloche these are nice for moderate bucks
