Progress. Much nicer lever feel. Didn't have any Campagnolo inner cables so the cable anchor/pear nipple wotnot slightly fouls the lever body, but the canti springs are more than strong enough for the lever blade to return.
The power hanger was way less fiddly to set up than I thought, but would obviously benefit from left hand braking and I had to get a bit inventive.
