  • I have repaired fairings using acrylic nail powder and the monomer. Seems to be the same as the the expensive kit.

    I used playdoh to model the broken bits of fairing.

  • Some time ago I made a fairing repair using Poundland nail varnish remover. It takes a long time for the acetone to chemically melt the plastics, but I would recommend this method. It can turn the plastics white (not an issue if hidden from view), and it is chemically re-bonding the pieces together. If you can be bothered, do that.

    You can also put shavings of the similar plastic into a bottle of acetone to make a repair goo that is chemically similar and should give you a good repair.

  • It's the hidden socket part of two pieces of fairing joining - I haven't got the bits of plastic that broke off, so I'll probably bodge this one. I just want to stop the rattle!

  • There was a good one on ebay a few weeks ago in london that had low miles, it was yellow and it sold then relisted again.

    I think it went for £1850, they are worth about 2k now imo

  • This sounds like a recipe for ABS slurry, as used in 3D printing for holding prints down. Given the value of the fairing, it's probably worth buying proper acetone rather than nail varnish remover, avoiding issues with the moisturiser and other contaminants.
    If you know anyone on the 3D printing thread IRL, they might be able to design (and print) an ABS reinforcing patch that can be bonded in place with slurry. I say IRL because it will probably need several attempts with access to the fairing to get it right - possibly it's just me, but making a print match a surface rarely works first time!

  • Nah it was all good in the end. The RR is In great airflow point behind the fan, I just wish they bolted it from the inside instead.
    Not sure where the fuck they’d have put the RR other than that, the engine is packed right. I dread even more modern crap.

    @konastab01 I’d absolutely flip at a local one to rebuilt completely. They’re too awesome.

  • I think mine was from Superdrug - it left a residue (glycerine?) that didn't play nicely with my printer.

  • Ah sure. The nail varnish remover from £land is acetone and water.

  • I clean all my stuff for welding with cheapo Amazon nail polish remover. It's better than the crap they sell at Home Depot and cheaper too. They must think we're running a salon or something the amount I go through.

  • That red one above doesnt need a full rebuild but it does need a very light one and ill do the water pump when its stripped to bit.

    More cosmetic than anything and it needs a FI Unit which i said and is dead common!

  • I just buy 5l containers of industrial quality acetone from eBay every so often.

  • Yeah I know, they started bringing them in 03 and stopped in 09 but you can get some 10 plate ones.

    They still sell em in the US, I did look at bringing a few over to sell but the cost would have been mental on them before Id added anything on for my hassle and it was difficult to buy a new one from a dealer because I wasn't a US citizen..

  • You can plastic weld with plastic coat hangers.

  • Having been on this thread for a while now, I finally actually rode a motorbike for the first time today. It was a taster session ahead of my CBT on the 23rd. Didn't drop it, only stalled twice. And, best of all, I really enjoyed it.

    I did come away having decided that everyone who said don't bother with a 125 is absolutely right. I think I'm just too big for a 125.

  • Cheers. Current plan is to go straight to Direct Access, possibly in May, get a full licence and get a Street Triple 765R. My motorbike guru Geoff says that's a good plan. Whether he's right or not remains to be seen.
