• Thanks, the warsuit panels were the easy and quick part (airbrushed), everything else and the marine were all done by hand. I seem to have a lot more patience for blending than I used to!

There was a recent White Dwarf with a pic of a dreadnought that had deep purple fading into blue panels which gave me the idea. My execution is nowhere near as good as the one in the mag so still a way to go!

  • they're very effective! the edge highlight brings it together.

    the yellow is good too!

i'm not sure if you're familiar with the "cult of paint youtube channel" but they have this great guide on volumetric panel highlighting for armour which might be up your alley if you liked that, they done this wonder tank recently

  • Thanks, I find edge highlighting helps pull blends together nicely. Somehow tricks the eye into not seeing the different colours as separate layers (more obvious with brush blending tbh).

The yellow takes ages. Like white you can't just slap it on and get good coverage so I build from a light brown (most of the walker's yellow) or red (leader dude) normally. Did some very basic pack markings on some shoulder pads the other day and I realised I'd done 5 layers on a squad I was supposed to be "speed painting" 🤣 Looks good though!

Will look up that YouTube vid.
