You solved this conundrum well, and come on, doesn't every project gets thrown a spanner in the works at some point?! -

So, the R1000 has gone. Yeah i got around the structurals and solved the issues etc, but it just represented stress and tension and was frankly a mistake, all in all happy to see it go.
in the meantime I’d decided to fettle with the T400 and find a way to get my prefered bars on it, the PLT pro compacts.
Found an Innicycle headset on ebay and am pretty happy with it tbf. Looks great, feels comfy, just need to trim the excess.

Of course, when N+1 falls back to just N=1 the natural state of things is to scroll constantly through FB etc to find the +1.
Just missed out on a Principa RSL AS which was a mad bargain at £100 and changed my mind about 100 times on what i was actually looking for. And then I saw a CAAD9 Cyclocross on FB, £150 and local to me.
New project begins

Stripped down and its in decent condition, wheels are keepable, 10spd planet X that will do until i can find something better. Thinking 40mm ish rims.
First choice is what to do about the chips and scratches, split between;
Clear coating them as they are
Touching them up to match
Taking a Kintsugi style approach and highlight them in gold/silver.

Kintsugi all the way for me. How about sparkly red for the touch ups?

Found a gold/bronze sharpie and gave it a little test… kinda into it although mabe pure gold would look sharper.

Looking at it, fluoro yellow/orange/pink might also look nice..

I think it needs something brighter than the muted bronze for sure

an old example, though the simple paintjob prob helps

Off for the school holidays so plenty of time to fart around with this.
Tookaway all the white corrosion (?) that was under the clearcoat. Left some large areas of raw alu that will need covering. Gold will look pretty good i think.

The white stuff is aluminium oxide, just as rust is iron oxide.
I'm looking forward to seeing your progress -

Some progress on the T400.
CX9’s swapped out for RX6’s and a test fit of the innicycle cockpit set up ahwad of a 50k into a headwind.

Rethinking the Kintsugi plan in light of some more sizeable pockets of corrosion.
Giving it a deep clean & noticed a potential crank at the chainstay bridge.
Thankfully just a crack in the paint and corrosion underneath. However having scraped and cleaned the worst of it away, it will be some big patches of gold here. I think some serious mulling it over is in order.

edit: my brain just started working, you probably plan to use the CX9s on the CX build...

si, the rx6 are basically the same really, slightly less good looking and not cnc machined.
also only £20 a pair from Spa so much better value.

Praying for your structurals.

God bless this went to someone on the forum, a very good bike...
Looking forward to the build taking progress. I do agree with most, the idea of leaving the rough parts but giving them an edge with the gold could be very nice.
Could always get some nail polish from the local "salon"

Ahhhhh sorry hadn’t read upthread properly. That’s annoying.
File down the washer at an angle?! Probably a bad idea.
