• Even better stick some bikes on the roof to add a bit more drag

    I had that when I drove to Switzerland and back in a weekend 2 years ago with three bikes on the roof and three (different) bikes on the roof on the way back. I ended up going slower on the way back because it got depressing watching the fuel gauge visibly moving, and the time I was saving with the higher speeds was being offset by more time spent refuelling.

    It ended up costing me over £600 just in fuel.

  • Stop in Luxembourg and fill 4 20 liter jerry cans.
    As a teen and early twenty I could easily drive from near Birmingham to Naples in one hit. Then as I got older I stopped in Turin with family. As I have got older I prefer stopping in b&b and taking my time.
    I have driven to Naples in a series 1 diesel land rover....that was returned to the UK on a trailer as I was not doing that again
