  • I think basic 3rd party insurance could be included with your VED. I also think there shouldn’t be any free VED vehicles as they still put a drain on the public purse. You should also have to pay 20% tax on the electric you use to charge you car up. You should not be able to fill your car up at a fuel stop unless it is has valid VED (number plate recognition?)
    The list goes on.

    Difficult to measure for the people that have solar panels or something. Easier to ditch fuel duty for everyone and replace it with road pricing.

    As long as there are long protruding German cars, there need to be counter-incentives.

    However, I think we've reached a stage in the EV take up where there should be weight cut off. Weight and size also needs to be taken into consideration for VED now as well.

    Did a quick Google and an Evoque apparently has a kerb weight of 1,787 to 2,157 kg. Which at the upper end, let's be frank, is ridiculous given their interior space and typical use.
