Modern Doxa watches feel like a brand that watch nerds like and say others should like but I just don't see it.

Not entirely unrelated to my last comment. Any interest in my green Clifton? I paid £1400 a few weeks ago with one strap only worn it twice. Full set Inc receipt mint. Green Ostrich shin or black Croc strap £1200 both straps + £150

Nice, post pics once it arrives. Silver is my favourite Doxa dial colour. I'm curious to see how it wears, if it's a "big" 39 or a "small" 39.

Will do. They're live on their website to order but I'm going to wait until they've got one in which should be very soon so I can try before before I buy. I'm hoping for a small 39. The salesman I spoke to wasn't aware of the release only one in store knew about these so the first silver one they get has my name on it.

I’ve had a few and they’re all great. Ended up with this one, funny enough.

Don’t know if we did this - think it’s new, very keen…

Actually I should clarify that Longines I posted yesterday is my first foray into buying a nice watch for everyday use. I was gifted this dressy manual omega by my wife’s godmother for our wedding a number of years ago, but it really doesn’t come out all that often. It has no real markings to speak of on it but maybe the keen eyed amongst you might know what it is?

That’s an absolute beauty, you married well. Model reference number will be stamped inside the case back but I wouldn’t recommend you start trying to open unless you’ve got some experience with a case knife.
At some point it will be worth taking it for a service and asking the watchmaker to take note of the numbers. -

I actually brought it to Omega on Regents street back when I was gifted it for a service, the reference number was printed on the assessment form: 688715/311036

They are, unfortunately, significantly larger than a trad 5600/5610. If you turn all the smart functions off the battery life is pretty good, if you use the HRM regularly you're probably taking it off to charge it (via USB) every day.
If the size works for you they do look nice and I like the modern MIP screens in those and other recent G-Shocks.

That is the one, really. Much prefer the box crystal and the NDL scale in metres. And orange / beads of rice is pure Doxa.
-
• #77041
Yeah I reckon small. The dial already looks small on the 300/300T and the lug to lug is short.

The only thing I’d change is the orange fish thing on the crown. The anniversary models with a simple “DOXA” on the crown look much cooler. But that’s me being picky.

I might take a gamble then on the size working for me. My local WOS yesterday said they'll be getting them I as soon as they are available and the first silver one they get they'll call me so I can have a look but now I see Francis and Gaye have them available to order online with 2 weeks delivery with 10% off until the end of next weekend so if don't hear from them next week I might do that.

Yeah, I’ll have to try one on. It’s a shame the solar doesn’t have a little bit more oomph - love the tamagotchi-esque UI. Reviews look like people are getting ~a week of HRM, with a bit of tracked activity each day.
The quest for a low tech smart watch continues..

What are you after, HR?
Also looking for something like that.
I tried a whoop on the right, watch on the left because I like the idea of a bit more data.
Whoop is a nice thing, but the app is a bit annoying and no way my training warrants the cost and time needed. -

Looking at Christopher Ward and would be great if they had some offerings that were a little less polished/ dress watch and more tool oriented.

The real answer is, I’m not. I’d like a little more data but not really at the expense of douvble banding - I like watches so like to chop and change. I’ve tried little fitbits, a whoop for a bit etc. I would like metrics without any digital intrusion from my phone. A dumb smart watch essentially - Whoop/Oura something like that is the obvious solution, but I also don’t want another thing to manage charging every night and put on every morning. I won’t do anything of enough value with the metrics to pay for a subscription service really - the g-shock looks fun as a potential every day wearer if it doesn’t need charging every night. Something which will give me casual health data without being too intrusive.

Facing this conundrum. After a few months I've kind of had enough of the charging cycle of my Apple Watch, but would still like a step count/basic health metric alongside a watch. Have considered a whoop as its somewhat discrete but the subscription cost seems ridiculous. Ugh.
I sometimes find myself strangely drawn towards Doxa.....
